Clearwater, located just southwest of Wichita, has a population of nearly 2,500 people in Sedgwick County. The local high school features one of the top all-around girl athletes in the state of Kansas in senior Bryna Vogel.
Vogel, a 5'11" senior from Clearwater High School, was named the Kansas 4A-II volleyball player of the year by the KVA this past fall. Vogel, an outside hitter, picked up a ridiculous 529 kills this season (6.5 kills per set). Her play has landed her a scholarship to play next season at Kansas State University.
Not only is Vogel a big time volleyball player, she also gets it done on the basketball court. Vogel, who plays forward, has averaged 22.8 points per game for the 4A-II fifth ranked (KBCA) Indians this season. She has also picked up 12.8 rebounds per contest on the year, to go along with 3.4 steals and 2.9 blocks. Vogel was a first team 4A all-state selection last season by averaging 17.9 points per game.
Look for another all-state season for Vogel this year on the hardwood. We caught up with the future Wildcat below...

Q&A w/ Bryna Vogel of Clearwater
How did you get involved in athletics?
I've grown up around sports. My sister played sports all the time so I followed in her steps and decided to try it out. I started playing softball when I was four and then eventually I started playing others sports as well.
What are your goals for this season in basketball?
I'd like to be a better player all around. I also am using this to help me be a better leader. Making it back to the state tournament would be the perfect way to end my senior basketball career.
What are your college plans?
I'm going to K-State to play volleyball. I was also really looking at Colorado State and the NAVY. I even thought about playing both volleyball and basketball at Emporia and Pitt State.
Why did you choose KSU?
Both of my parents went there and I love the campus and the coaches there. KSU also has a great zoology program and that's what I'd like to study.
Talk about how playing multiple sports makes you become a better athlete?
By playing multiple sports, I use different muscles so it helps with my speed and agility. Some things in one sport might be similar to another so it just helps me be more versatile. Do you play any other sports besides basketball and volleyball? Yes, I play softball! I did track in middle school and really liked it but I haven't done it since.
Who is the best player you have ever played against at any level?
I can't think of just one specific player I've played against. There are a lot of good players I've play against in many sports.
Who are some other area teams to look out for?
Anyone in my league is good. All the teams around Clearwater are good teams to look out for.
What will it take for you guys to make a run at state in basketball?
We need to all work together. Everyone on the team needs to contribute and I think we'll have a great chance to make it back to Salina.
What do you do in the offseason to become a better player?
I'm always playing a sport so once I finish one sport, I go right to the next one.
Favorite subject?
Art! Definitely art. It's one of the only classes I look forward to.
Favorite twitter account?
I don't think I really have one
What is it like to grow up in Clearwater?
I think it's great! It's a small town so everyone knows everyone and it's just far enough away from Wichita so it's a safe town where you can go outside or walk around town but it's close enough to Wichita so if you need something, you can drive there to go get it. Everyone is pretty genuinely nice in Clearwater so as a whole it's what I would call the perfect place to call home.
What do you like to do for fun besides sports?
I love to do artwork like drawing and painting. I think being outside is great so I love to backpack in the mountains in Colorado. I also love to make music and I've recently gained a spark for acting in the schools plays.
What is one thing nobody would know about you?
All my friends know this but I can do the wave with my eyebrows, I can wiggle my ears, flare my nostrils, make a three leaf clover with my tongue, and pop my bellybutton out.
