Kpreps.com takes you Around the Classes as we look at a handful of games in each classification from teams outside our top five rankings. 

Class 6A:

Blue Valley West built a 24-7 halftime lead and held off Bishop Miege, 38-20. Jaguar quarterback Tate Nagy passed for 280 yards and a touchdown in the win. Wayne Carter added 204 yards on the ground with two touchdowns on 25 attempts. Tate Miller also added two rushing scores. Quin Myers caught seven Nagy passes for 134 yards and a score.  

Colby Eck-Watkins passed for 260 yards and three touchdowns as Wichita West routed Wichita North, 64-0. Eck-Watkins added a pair of rushing scores, while Dandre Rogers, Jr, added 86 yards rushing on eight carries. Junior Lee Straughter caught four passes for 134 yards and two scores.

Shawnee Mission East scored in each quarter in defeating Shawnee Mission South, 35-14. The Lancers rushed for more than 230 yards in the game led by 125 yards and a touchdown from Jack Reeves. Nate Phillips added 73 yards and scored twice for SM East. Reeves also added a pair of touchdown passes to Chris Beikmann. South’s touchdowns came on rushing scores from Traeh West and Solomon Hirsch.   

Dodge City improved to 2-1 with a 42-8 win over Wichita South. Seven Red Demon backs combined for nearly 250 yards rushing, including touchdowns from Alan Flores, Bryson Unzueta, and Cade Barnett. Flores also passed for 198 yards and two scores. Dodge City will travel to unbeaten Liberal this week.

Olathe North picked up its first win of the season by knocking off then No. 4 Lawrence, 42-34. The Eagles rushed for 374 yards in the game led by junior Blaise Adger’s 203 yards and four rushing scores. Jamison Sarver added 123 yards and a touchdown on just five carries. Sam Simmons also returned an interception for a score for the Eagles. Banks Bowen passed for 413 yards and three scores for Lawrence, but was intercepted twice. Jaxon Becker led the Lions with 11 catches for 101 yards and two scores. Bowen also added 102 yards on the ground.


Class 5A:

Basehor-Linwood scored twice in the fourth quarter to hold off Shawnee Heights, 42-35. Senior Nick Doering led the Bobcats with 195 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 32 carries. Doering also caught a touchdown pass from Carson Dixon. Dixon also connected with Austin Adair on a score. Shawnee Heights quarterback Aiden Scott passed for 263 yards and three scores. A.J. Gallegos led the T-Birds with 96 receiving yards and two scores, while Tyren Parker had 80 yards receiving and a touchdown.  

Pittsburg ran past Labette County, 55-21, to earn its second win of the season. Carsen Nickelson completed 8 of 9 passes for 142 yards and four touchdowns – three of which went to Conner Proffitt who has 90 receiving yards. Stone Peery added 90 yards and two scores on the ground for the Purple Dragons. Proffitt and Nate Mitchell each added rushing scores. Labette County was led by Aaron Wyrick who passed for 206 yards, while Jamaal Jackson added 133 yards and a score on the ground.

Liberal remained unbeaten after blanking Guymon (Okla.), 56-0. Senior Xavier Porras rushed for 271 yards and three touchdowns and added a touchdown pass in the win. Alex Schwindt added a pair of rushing scores and sophomore Wyatt Mannel also scored once.  

Hutchinson blanked Maize, 21-0, in a game delayed by weather. The Salthawks kept things on the ground with 276 rushing yards on the night. Senior Kade Smith led the way for Hutch with 196 yads and two scores on 33 carries. Terrell King added the Salthawks’ other rushing score.

Salina Central blitzed Haysville Campus, 48-0. Jack Gordon completed all eight of his passes for 211 yards and five touchdowns. Gordon threw two touchdown passes to Isaiah White and one each to Bodie Rodriguez, Keaton Smith, and Noah Peck.

KC Washington rolled past Harmon, 45-0. Savion Stone passed for 232 yards and four touchdowns for the Wildcats. Cam’ron Fields caught three passes for 125 yards and two scores, while Trenton English and Shon Williams each caught scoring passes. Fields and Stone each rushed for touchdowns as the Wildcats totaled 244 yards on the ground.

 

Class 4A:

Atchison scored all 55 points in the first half in topping KC Sumner Academy, 55-16. Junior quarterback Kolton Bonnel passed for 115 yards and three scores – two to Eric Smith, III. J.Z. Kelley added a receiving touchdown for the Phoenix. Jaden Carter also added a pair of rushing scores.

Mulvane scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to top Towanda-Circle, 29-19. The T-Birds led 19-15 at halftime before Mulvane scored the only points of the second half in the fourth. Mulvane will host Augusta this week. Circle was led by quarterback Mason Stobart’s 265 passing yards with two touchdowns.

After competitive losses to Wichita Collegiate and Andale to open the season, Wellington got in the win column with a 35-14 victory over Clearwater. The Crusaders scored in each quarter and got 270 passing yards from Dusty Bannister. Bannister tossed two touchdown passes to Grady Norris who had 113 receiving yards. Nick Giefer added two rushing touchdowns in the game. Garrison Wells led Clearwater with 172 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

The Tonganoxie Chieftains edged Lansing, 14-13, to earn their first victory of the season. Tonganoxie had lost 21-20 in overtime to Louisburg, then 18-14 to Spring Hill in the first two weeks. The Chieftains scored both touchdowns in the first quarter and held on against Lansing. Lansing scored on a Jaxon Pollard rushing touchdown and a pick-six by Braden Jackson.


Class 3A:

Holcomb picked up its second win by topping Ulysses, 42-16. Korbin Johnson rushed for 199 yards and four touchdowns for the Longhorns. Freshman Cooper Cranston caught a 56-yard touchdown pass from Keegan Johnson. Freshman Tyce Perez rushed for a score for Ulysses and passed for 101 yards. Julian Meraz returned an interception 53 yards for the Tigers other score.

Wellsville took control of the Pioneer League race with a 35-20 win over Prairie View. The Eagles scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to hold off the Buffaloes. Armond Graves rushed 17 times for 135 yards and three touchdowns to lead Wellsville. Prairie View was led by Parker Schwarz’s 107 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The Buffs also scored on a 97-yard touchdown pass from Wyatt Attebery to Joe Sramek.

Pratt score 48 points in the second quarter in routing Larned, 70-0. Senior Owen Schmidt rushed for a touchdown, caught a touchdown pass, and had four defensive touchdowns. He returned two fumbles for scores and two interceptions for touchdowns. Schmidt had 130 defensive return yards on the night. Taye Wilson also added 109 yards and two scores on the ground for the Greenbacks.

Burlington outscored Baldwin 13-0 in the second half to hold off the Bulldogs, 20-14. Burlington’s Chance Hegg passed for 212 yards and two touchdowns and added 93 yards on the ground with a score. Hegg connected with Brody Anderson on nine receptions for 194 yards and two scores.

Hesston remained unbeaten by knocking off Hillsboro, 27-12. The Swathers were led by Karter Gonzalez’s 91 yards on the ground with a touchdown. Sophomore Jerick Humphreys passed for 177 yards, including a touchdown to Asher Deutschendorf who caught three passes for 76 yards.

 

Class 2A:

Eureka improved to 3-0 with a 38-26 victory over Cherryvale. The Tornadoes scored 30 points in the first half in holding off the Chargers. Junior Peyton Hare rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns and added 95 yards through the air with two more scores. T.J. Mills caught both touchdown passes from Hare.    

Ellsworth edged Minneapolis, 26-21. Senior Landin Johnson rushed for 263 yards and four touchdowns on 21 carries. Johnson pushed his season total to 722 yards with 11 touchdowns. Johnson also registered six tackles, including three for loss, and recovered a fumble.  

Council Grove blanked Cair Paravel, 46-0, to improve to 3-0. Ace Monihen rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns, while sophomore Luke Stewart passed for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Stewart’s two touchdown passes went to Levi Waring.  

Humboldt blasted Erie, 68-0.  The Cubs scored 30 points in the first quarter and 22 more in the second. Blake Ellis passed for 160 yards and three scores on ten completions. He threw touchdown passes to Logan Page, Cole Mathes, and Asher Hart. Ellis added 93 rush yards and three scores.

Central Heights beat Uniontown, 26-14, to pick up their first win of the season. Brody Roullett led the Vikings with 112 yards rushing and a touchdown. Reed Compton and Ben Teegarden each rushed for touchdowns. Roullett also tossed a touchdown pass to Dustin Smith.  

Atchison County moved into the win column with a 43-8 victory over Valley Falls. The Tigers led 12-8 at halftime before score 23 points in the third quarter to pull away. Max Bottorff rushed for 172 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries for ACCHS. Kannon Crossland added 82 yards and two scores on the ground. The Tigers held the Dragons to 8 yards rushing on 29 attempts.


Class 1A:

Ellinwood remained unbeaten with a 55-0 win over Stanton County. It was the Eagles third consecutive shutout to start the season. Ellinwood has outscored its opponents by a score of 134-0. Senior Landon Simpson rushed for three touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass to Braden Lewis. Cason Merritt and Tavian McCaffery each added rushing scores.

Mission Valley got back in the win column with a 46-0 win over West Franklin. Senior Porter Deters completed 9 of 13 passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 84 yards and a rushing score. Deters threw touchdown passes to Bryce Bunger, Kaden Brobst, and Ian Deters.

Thomas More Prep defeated Phillipsburg, 30-22, in a Mid-Continent League contest. The game was tied at eight after the first quarter, though the Monarchs had a 22-8 advantage in the next two quarters. Junior Carson Liles, hurt basically all last season, enjoyed the best passing game by a Monarch quarterback in several years. He completed 21 of 32 passes for 235 yards with a score against an interception. He delivered nine carries for 36 yards and two scores. Sophomore Jacob Seib caught 10 passes for 110 yards with a touchdown. Seniors Austin Gilbert and Ryan Casey each tallied three tackles with a sack, while junior Caden Dinkel intercepted a pass and forced a fumble.

Maur Hill-Mount Academy defeated Maranatha Christian Academy, 65-12. Senior Luke Siebert completed five of nine passes for 107 yards and three touchdowns. Junior Jack Moore rushed twice for 83 yards and a score, including a 75-yard run. Junior Omari Ari-lebron Shephard posted three rushes for 69 yards and two scores.


Class 8-man I

Oswego defeated Colony-Crest, 52-6, and has a home game versus top-five West Elk this week. The Indians led 16-0 after the first quarter and 30-0 at halftime. Oswego attempted only one pass and had all yardage on the ground with 24 carries for 317 yards and six scores. Freshman Demitri Williamson posted six carries for 119 yards and two scores. Junior Owen Jackson had six rushes for 96 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Josh Hutchinson led with 11 tackles. Oswego moved to 2-1.

Central Plains bounced back from its loss to Victoria, ranked No. 3 in Eight-Man, Division II, with a 56-0 win against La Crosse. The Oilers led 32-0 after the first quarter in a game that ended at halftime.

Mankato-Rock Hills trailed Pike Valley, 14-8, after the first quarter and came back to win, 68-22. Rock Hills had a 52-8 run in the second and third quarters. Senior Isaiah Ridgeway posted 25 carries for 305 yards and seven scores.


Class 8-man II

Hodgeman County blanked Spearville, 22-0, to improve to 3-0. Sophomore quarterback Ian Reece completed all five of his passes for 37 yards and a touchdown. Reece also added a rushing score, as did Garrett Nuss. Freshman Talon Shank caught the touchdown pass from Reece. Spearville has been shutout in two of three losses this season.

Hutchinson Central Christian posted a second consecutive 48-0 shutout, this one over Stafford. The Cougars were led by Ry Kooiman’s 239 rushing yards and two scores on 16 carries. Nathan Reed also added a pair of rushing scores.  

Marmaton Valley rolled over Northeast-Arma, 50-0. Senior Brayden Lawson posted nine of 16 passes for 197 yards with five scores against no interceptions. Sophomore Cooper Scharff had four catches for 139 yards with three touchdowns. Senior Jaedon Granere recorded four catches for 39 yards with two TDs.

Lebo beat Waverly, 60-12. Lebo led 22-0 after the first quarter and 54-12 at halftime. Drew Konrade rushed for five touchdowns for Lebo, from eight, two, two, one and 10 runs.

Argonia-Attica defeated Cedar Vale-Dexter, 48-28. A&A led 8-0 after the first quarter and 28-14 at halftime. Junior Carson Vineyard had 25 carries for 147 yards and three scores. Senior Andrew Bennett had eight carries for 59 yards and two touchdowns.

Bucklin was a Kpreps Potential Breakout Team this preseason and has opened 3-0. Bucklin struggled in close games last season, but defeated Sublette on Friday, 24-18, in overtime. The game was scoreless after the first quarter, and Bucklin led 6-0 at halftime and 18-10 after three quarters. Senior Aiden Haskell posted 13 carries for 102 yards and a score. Senior Lucas Kirk had eight of 17 passing for 78 yards with two TDs against one interception.

Minneola won an epic 82-80, five-overtime game against South Gray. Junior Levi Lang had 32 of 43 passes for 450 yards with six touchdowns against one interception. Jesse Smith had 18 catches for 240 yards and five scores. Junior Tyson Klotz recorded nine catches for 152 yards and a touchdown.

Logan-Palco was also expected to be a breakout team and defeated Lakeside-Downs, 42-38, to move to 3-0. The Trojans led 12-6 after the first quarter. The game was tied at halftime before the Trojans had a 12-6 margin in the third quarter. Senior Rhett Kats passed for 179, rushed for 106, and accounted for two passing and two rushing scores. Logan-Palco outgained Lakeside, 419-195.


6-Man

Tescott defeated Northern Valley, 52-30, in a battle of two teams just outside the top-five rankings. In a game played in poor weather, Tescott outgained the Huskies, 360-148. The Trojans led 13-0 after the first quarter and 19-8 at halftime. Tescott led 39-16 after three quarters. Tescott’s Joey Stirn rushed for four touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass. For Northern Valley, Gavin Thalheim posted 18 tackles, while Owen Hammond and Lucas Hansen delivered 13 stops. Thalheim posted eight of 15 passing for 77 yards with a pair of passing scores. Tescott was able to control the clock in the second half.

Otis-Bison beat Pawnee Heights, 40-19. The Cougars led 13-6 after the first quarter and 27-6 at halftime. Senior Jake Hoopingarner completed 10 of 15 passes for 203 yards with three scores against one interception. Junior Gavin Alloway rushed 15 times for 77 yards and two scores. Otis-Bison had 364 total yards, while Pawnee Heights posted 227. Senior Logan Maier had three catches for 103 yards and a score.

Golden Plains defeated Wheatland-Grinnell, 54-6. Senior Josh Rath completed nine of 20 passes for 200 yards with four touchdowns. Rath rushed four times for 102 yards and three scores. Junior Dylan Wark has posted 13 rushes for 105 yards and three TDs.


Non-KSHSAA

Reno County Homeschool outscored Fairfield, 64-42. Sophomore quarterback Bo Smith passed for 176 yards and three touchdowns and added 81 yards on the ground with two scores. Brecken Guthrie led the Sabres with 94 yards rushing and a score. Jett Smith caught a pair of touchdown passes for Reno County. Fairfield was led by Connor Fowler’s 157 rushing yards and three scores.
