District Scenarios

We have analyzed the records, completed all the calculations, and researched all of the district tie-breakers. The result is this complete narrative of the district playoff scenarios for each 3A district in the state.

Class 3A

District 1

  • Frontenac (6-1, 3-0) at Galena (0-7, 0-3) – Frontenac has already captured the District 1 championship with wins over Parsons and Columbus. Galena has been eliminated from playoff consideration.   
  • Columbus (2-5, 2-1) at Parsons (6-1, 2-1) – The winner of this game is the district runner-up, while the loser is the 3-seed.   
  • Non-District: Wichita Trinity (2-5) at Baxter Springs (4-3) – Baxter Springs closes out the regular season by hosting pass-happy Wichita Trinity. Baxter finishes 4th in District 1, while Trinity will miss out on the playoffs. The Knights finished 5th in District 6.   

District 2

  • Girard (3-4, 1-2) at Burlington (4-3, 2-1) – Burlington can win the District 2 title by beating Girard and having Prairie View lose to Anderson County. Girard clinched a playoff berth by beating Anderson County last week. The Trojans can grab the 3-seed by beating Burlington as long as Prairie View beats Anderson County.
  • Anderson County (1-6, 0-3) at Prairie View (3-4, 2-1) – A Prairie View victory by at least 9 points coupled with a Burlington win would create a three-way tie with Iola for the district lead. Prairie View would claim the district title with the most marginal points. Anderson County has been eliminated. The Bulldogs can only tie Girard, but Girard holds the head-to-head against Anderson County.
  • Non-District: Santa Fe Trail (5-2) at Iola (4-3) – These two Pioneer League rivals will play a non-district, league game in Week 8. Iola claims the district championship if Burlington loses to Girard.

District 3

  • Baldwin (2-5, 1-2) at Wellsville (7-0, 3-0) – Wellsville is the district champion having defeated Santa Fe Trail last week.  
  • Bishop Ward (2-5, 1-2) at Osawatomie (0-7, 0-3) – Osawatomie can reach the playoffs with a win over Bishop Ward and a Baldwin win over Wellsville. Bishop Ward is in with a win and can finish 3rd if Baldwin loses to Wellsville.  
  • Non-District: Santa Fe Trail (5-2) at Iola (4-3) – These two Pioneer League rivals will play a non-district, league game in Week 8. Santa Fe Trail has wrapped up the runner-up spot in District 3.

District 4

  • Jefferson West (1-6, 0-3) at Holton (3-4, 2-1) – Holton has clinched the District 4 runner-up having wins over Royal Valley and Perry-Lecompton.  Jeff West has been eliminated by virtue of district losses to Royal Valley and Perry-Lecompton – the only two teams the Tigers could tie in the standings.
  • Perry-Lecompton (2-5, 1-2) at Royal Valley (2-5, 1-2) – The winner of this game is the No. 3 seed out of District 4, while the loser qualifies as the No. 4 seed.
  • Non-District: Hiawatha (1-6) at Topeka Hayden (7-0) – Hayden has completed district play and is the District 4 champion. Hiawatha has been eliminated in District 5 having lost all four district games.

District 5

  • Concordia (2-5, 1-2) at Rock Creek (4-3, 2-1) – Rock Creek can claim the district runner-up finish with a win and a Marysville loss. Concordia can grab the 3-seed by beating Rock Creek and having Marysville upset Clay Center.
  • Clay Center (6-1, 3-0) at Marysville (3-4, 2-1) – Clay Center is the district champ with a win. Marysville claims the district title with a win by at least 14 points or any win coupled with a Rock Creek loss to Concordia.
  • Non-District: Hiawatha (1-6) at Topeka Hayden (7-0) – Hayden has completed district play and is the District 4 champion. Hiawatha has been eliminated in District 5 having lost all four district games.

District 6

  • Hesston (4-3, 3-0) at Wichita Collegiate (6-1, 3-0) – This game will decide the District 6 title. The winner qualifies as the district champion, the loser as the runner-up.  
  • Clearwater (2-5, 1-2) at Chapman (2-5, 1-2) – The winner of this game is the No. 3 seed out of District 6, while the loser qualifies as the No. 4 seed. 
  • Non-District: Wichita Trinity (2-5) at Baxter Springs (4-3) – Baxter Springs closes out the regular season by hosting pass-happy Wichita Trinity. Baxter finishes 4th in District 1, while Trinity will miss out on the playoffs. The Knights finished 5th in District 6.  

District 7

  • Pratt (4-3, 2-1) at Andale (6-1, 2-1) – Andale will look to rebound from its first loss in 57 games against Pratt. The winner of this game is the district runner-up, while the loser is the 3-seed.
  • Smoky Valley (0-7, 0-3) at Nickerson (1-6, 0-3) – The winner qualifies as the No. 4 seed out of District 7, while the loser is left out of the playoff bracket.
  • Non-District: Halstead (3-4) at Cheney (7-0) – Cheney has completed district play and is the champion with their dramatic overtime win over Andale last week. Halstead is in Class 2A.

District 8

  • Colby (4-3, 1-2) at Scott City (6-1, 3-0) – Scott City has already clinched the District 8 title by virtue of its win over Holcomb – the only team that can mathematically tie the Beavers in the standings. Colby can qualify for the playoffs with a win or a Goodland loss.
  • Goodland (1-6, 0-3) at Hugoton (5-2, 1-2) – Hugoton can qualify as the 3-seed with a victory. Goodland needs a win and hope for a Colby win over Scott City.
  • Non-District: Southwestern Heights (1-6) at Holcomb (5-2) – Holcomb has completed district play and is the runner-up. Southwestern Heights is in Class 2A and finished as fifth in District 7 and will not qualify for the playoffs.

 

Class 2A

District 1

  • Riverton (4-3, 3-0) at Caney Valley (5-2, 3-0) – This game will decide the District 1 title. The winner qualifies as the district champion, the loser as the runner-up.  
  • Cherryvale (3-4, 1-2) at Neodesha (3-4, 1-2) – The winner of this game is the No. 3 seed out of District 1, while the loser qualifies as the No. 4 seed.
  • Non-District: Eureka (1-6) at Fredonia (2-5) – Non-district game between Tri-Valley League rivals.  Both Fredonia and Eureka have been eliminated from the playoffs with four district losses.

District 2

  • Osage City (6-1, 3-0) at Council Grove (5-2, 2-1) – These Flint Hills League rivals will help decide the District 2 championship. Osage City is the champion with a victory. Council Grove needs to win by at least 11 points to claim the title. The Braves can also win the title with victory along with a Humboldt loss to West Franklin.
  • Humboldt (6-1, 2-1) at West Franklin (3-4, 1-2) – Humboldt can secure the runner-up with a victory and a Council Grove loss to Osage City. A West Franklin victory along with a Council Grove win over Humboldt would lift West Franklin to the 3-seed.
  • Non-District: Eureka (1-6) at Fredonia (2-5) – Non-district game between Tri-Valley League rivals.  Both Fredonia and Eureka have been eliminated from the playoffs with four district losses.

District 3

  • Maur Hill-Mount Academy (0-7, 0-3) at Rossville (4-3, 2-1) – Maur Hill has been eliminated from playoff contention with their loss to Pleasant Ridge back in Week 4 – the only team the Ravens could tie in the standings. Rossville can win the district with at least a 15-point win and an Atchison County 15-point upset of Silver Lake.
  • Atchison County (4-3, 2-1) at Silver Lake (6-1, 3-0) – Both teams have already qualified for the playoffs. Silver Lake is the district champion with a win. Atchison County is the district champion with a win and a Rossville loss to Maur Hill. Rossville can win the district with at least a 15-point win and an Atchison County 15-point upset of Silver Lake.
  • Non-District: Centralia (6-1) at Pleasant Ridge (2-5) – Pleasant Ridge gets a non-district game vs Class 1A power Centralia. The Rams have qualified as the 4-seed out of this district.

District 4

  • Nemaha Central (7-0, 3-0) at Sabetha (7-0, 3-0) – Huge game in the eastern half of Class 2A this week which will decide the District 4 championship. The winner qualifies as the district champion, the loser as the runner-up.  
  • Minneapolis (4-3, 1-2) at Riley County (3-4, 1-2) – The winner of this game is the No. 3 seed out of District 4, while the loser qualifies as the No. 4 seed. 
  • Non-District: Wabaunsee (4-3) at Horton (0-7) – This is a non-district game. Horton has been eliminated from playoff consideration, while Wabaunsee is a playoff qualifier out of Class 1A, District 5.

District 5

  • Southeast of Saline (7-0, 3-0) at Ellsworth (7-0, 3-0) – Huge game in the western half of Class 2A this week which will decide the District 5 championship. The winner qualifies as the district champion, the loser as the runner-up.  
  • Hillsboro (4-3, 1-2) at Lyons (0-7, 0-3) – Hillsboro qualifies as the No. 3 seed out of District 5 with a win at Lyons – giving Halstead the No. 4 seed. A Lyons victory would qualify the Lions as the No. 4 seed and give Halstead the No. 3 seed.
  • Non-District: Halstead (3-4) at Cheney (7-0) – Cheney has completed district play and is the champion with their dramatic overtime win over Andale last week. Halstead has qualified with a playoff spot in 2A.

District 6

  • Kingman (6-1, 3-0) at Garden Plain (6-1, 3-0) – Another big game in the western half of Class 2A which will decide the District 6 title. The winner qualifies as the district champion, the loser as the runner-up.  
  • Chaparral (1-5, 1-2) at Haven (4-3, 1-2) – Both teams have qualified for the playoffs. The winner will qualify as the 3-seed, while the loser goes as the 4-seed.  
  • Non-District: Douglass (0-7) at Leon-Bluestem (0-7) – This is a non-district game between former Central Plains League rivals. Neither team will qualify for their respective playoff brackets.   

District 7

  • Hoisington (7-0, 3-0) at Cimarron (1-6, 1-2) – Hoisington is the district. The Cardinals have defeated both Lakin and Larned – the only two teams with a chance to tie the Cardinals in the standings. Cimarron has qualified as the No. 4 seed with their win over Southwestern Heights. The Blue Jays have lost to both Lakin and Larned in district play.
  • Lakin (4-3, 2-1) at Larned (5-2, 2-1) – Both teams have qualified for the playoffs. The winner will qualify as the district runner-up, while the loser goes as the 3-seed.  
  • Non-District: Southwestern Heights (1-6) at Holcomb (5-2) – This is a non-district game. Holcomb has qualified as the district runner-up in 3A District 8 . Southwestern Heights is in Class 2A and finished as fifth in District 7 and will not qualify for the playoffs.

District 8

  • Thomas More Prep (4-3, 1-2) at Beloit (3-4, 2-1) – Beloit is the district runner-up with a win. TMP is the district runner-up with a win over Beloit coupled with a Russell loss to Norton.
  • Norton (7-0, 3-0) at Russell (3-4, 1-2) – Norton has already clinched the District 8 title regardless of this week’s result. The Blue Jays defeated Beloit – the only team that could tie them in the standings. A Russell victory coupled with a TMP win at Beloit would tie the three teams at 2-2 with district margin points deciding the runner-up.
  • Non-District: Phillipsburg (3-4) at Plainville (4-3) – These two Mid-Continent League rivals will meet in a non-district game. Phillipsburg can sneak into the playoffs if Russell loses to Norton and TMP defeats Beloit.  

 

Class 1A

District 1

  • St. Mary’s Colgan (7-0, 3-0) at Uniontown (2-5, 2-1) – Colgan has already clinched the district championship. Even if Uniontown upsets Colgan by 21 or more points, the Panthers would still have the highest marginal point total ahead of Erie and Uniontown.
  • Southeast-Cherokee (0-7, 0-3) at Northeast-Arma (1-6, 0-3) – This is essentially an early playoff game. The winner qualifies as the No. 4 seed out of District 4, while the loser is left out of the playoff bracket.
  • Non-District: Erie (4-3) at Jayhawk-Linn (6-1) – This is a non-district game. Erie has finished as the runner-up in the district.

District 2

  • Olpe (5-2, 3-0) at Central Heights (4-3, 2-1) – Olpe wraps up the district title with a win over Central Heights. Central Heights wins the district title if the Vikings can beat Olpe by 19 or more points.
  • Pleasanton (4-3, 0-3) at Northern Heights (0-7, 0-3) – This is an early playoff game. The winner qualifies as the No. 4 seed out of District 4, while the loser is left out of the playoff bracket.
  • Non-District: Erie (4-3) at Jayhawk-Linn (6-1) – This is a non-district game. Jayhawk-Linn finishes as the runner-up if Olpe beats Central Heights or if Central Heights defeats Olpe by less than 19 points. The Jayhawks hold the head-to-head tie-breaker over Central Heights.  

District 3

  • St. Marys (4-3, 4-0) at McLouth (5-2, 2-2) – St. Marys has already won the District 3 title with wins over Jefferson Co. North – the only team that could pull even with the Bears in the district standings. McLouth can secured a playoff spot with a win. If the Bulldogs lose, coupled with wins by Mission Valley and Oskaloosa, McLouth would miss the playoffs.
  • Jefferson Co. North (6-1, 3-1) at Mission Valley (3-4, 2-2) – Both teams have already qualified for the playoffs. The winner of this game will be the district runner-up.
  • Oskaloosa (2-5, 1-3) at Valley Falls (1-6, 0-4) – Valley Falls has been eliminated from playoff consideration. To qualify, Oskaloosa must win and hope for a McLouth loss to St. Marys and a Mission Valley victory over JCN.

District 4

  • Troy (3-4, 1-2) at Riverside (2-5, 1-2) – Both teams have already qualified for the playoffs. The winner of this game will be the 3-seed from this district, while the loser qualifies as the fourth-place finisher.   
  • Jackson Heights (6-1, 2-1) at Onaga (1-6, 0-3) – Onaga has been eliminated from playoff consideration given the Buffs losses to both Troy and Riverside. Jackson Heights has clinched the district runner-up spot having defeated Troy and Riverside.
  • Non-District: Centralia (6-1) at Pleasant Ridge (2-5) – Centralia hosts a non-district game against Pleasant Ridge. The Panthers have already clinched the District 4 championship.  

District 5

  • Smith Center (6-1, 3-0) at Valley Heights (6-1, 3-0) – Another big game in the western half of Class 1A which will decide the District 5 title. The winner qualifies as the district champion, the loser as the runner-up.  
  • Republic County (0-7, 0-3) at Sacred Heart (1-6, 0-3) – This is essentially a playoff game. The winner qualifies as the No. 4 seed out of District 4, while the loser is left out of the playoff bracket.
  • Non-District: Wabaunsee (4-3) at Horton (0-7) – This is a non-district game. Horton has been eliminated from playoff consideration, while Wabaunsee is a playoff qualifier as the 3-seed out of Class 1A, District 5.

District 6

  • Sedgwick (6-1, 3-0) at Marion (7-0, 3-0) – This game will decide the District 6 title. The winner qualifies as the district champion, the loser as the runner-up.  
  • Whitewater-Remington (1-6, 1-2) at Belle Plaine (2-5, 1-2) – The winner of this game is the No. 3 seed out of District 6, while the loser qualifies as the No. 4 seed. 
  • Non-District: Douglass (0-7) at Leon-Bluestem (0-7) – This is a non-district game between former Central Plains League rivals. Neither team will qualify for their respective playoff brackets.  

District 7

  • Hutchinson Trinity (3-4, 2-2) at Conway Springs (5-2, 4-0) – Conway Springs has wrapped up the District 7 championship by virtue of their win over Medicine Lodge – the only team that could tie them in the standings. Hutchinson Trinity has qualified for the playoffs and can finish third in this district unless they finish in a two-way tie with Sterling who holds the head-to-head tie-break over the Celtics.  Trinity claims the 3-seed if they win and Sterling loses.
  • Inman (2-5, 1-3) at Medicine Lodge (5-2, 3-1) – Medicine Lodge has clinched the district runner-up finish with their close victories over both Sterling (21-20) and Hutch Trinity (16-14). Inman has been eliminated from playoff contention. The Teutons could finish in a three-way tie with Hutch Trinity and Sterling at 2-3, but Inman lost to both schools and cannot finish with the most marginal points of the three.
  • Ellinwood (3-4, 0-4) at Sterling (4-3, 2-2) – Ellinwood has been eliminated from playoff consideration with their 0-4 district record.

District 8

  • Oakley (1-6, 1-2) at Stanton County (2-4, 1-2) – The winner of this game is the No. 3 seed out of District 8, while the loser qualifies as the No. 4 seed. 
  • Syracuse (0-6, 0-3) at Ellis (3-4, 2-1) – Ellis has qualified as the district runner-up having beaten Oakley and Stanton County – the only two teams that could possibly tie them in the district standings. Syracuse has been eliminated from playoff consideration given the Bulldogs’ losses to Oakley and Stanton County.      
  • Non-District: Phillipsburg (3-4) at Plainville (4-3) – These two Mid-Continent League rivals will meet in a non-district game. Plainville has already clinched the District 8 championship.
