In our Picks to Click, we feature several players or units from across the state that we feel will have breakout performances on Friday night.
This season, we have assembled a team of media members across the state to each select one player (or unit) each week. We will track the cumulative statistics of our selections throughout the season similar to fantasy scoring.
Picks to Click contributors for the 2024 season include: Dion Clisso (PrepsKC.com); Matt Gilmore (Kpreps.com); Brent Maycock (KSHSAA Covered); and Conor Nicholl (Kpreps.com).
Check back next Thursday to see our picks for Week 7, and how the players performed that we picked the week prior. See the bottom of this article for details.
Wes Anderson, QB, Frankfort (Maycock)
Last year's leading passer in Eight-Man football, Anderson is well on his way to duplicating that feat again this year. Through five games, Anderson has completed 74.4% of his passes for 1,214 yards and 20 touchdowns while not getting intercepted once. He set school records in the season opener against Clifton-Clyde when he threw for 381 yards and 7 TDs. The potential for an air show shootout with Blue Valley Randolph exists this Friday with the Rams also boasting a potent passing game.
Ashton Moore, LB, Louisburg (Clisso)
Moore (6-0, 210) is one of the top two-way players in Class 4A, although he has been primarily used on defense this season. The senior linebacker has 39 tackles so far this season, including four tackles for loss. In last week’s dominating road win at Eudora, Moore registered 11 tackles, including one for loss. Moore’s offensive touches have increased in recent weeks with 293 rush yards and four touchdowns over his last three games. The top-ranked Wildcats are the lone unbeaten team in Class 4A and will travel to Wichita West (2-3) this week.
Josiah Pattangall, QB, Oberlin-Decatur Co. (Nicholl)
Pattangall (5-7, 175) has had a breakout sophomore season to date. The Oberlin quarterback has rushed for 909 yards and 14 touchdowns through five games. He is averaging 182 yards per contest and 8.3 yards per carry. Pattangall is six of 12 passing this season for 110 yards and two scores. The Red Devils are off to a strong start at 3-2 and have already equaled their win total from last season. Oberln hasn’t won four games in a single season since 2019, but the Red Devils will be heavily favored at winless Stockton this week.
Prairie View Offensive Line (Gilmore)
Prairie View boasts one of the top rushing attacks in Class 3A this season thanks to their offensive line. Prairie View averages 402.4 yards per game on the ground and the offensive line has paved the way for 25 rushing touchdowns. The Buffaloes have two games with more than 535 rushing yards. The offensive line is led by Johnny Colin, Jacob Law, Preston Merriman, Brody Wilcox, Grant Steenburgen, and Nolan Boyd. Prairie View has attempted five total passes this season, completing three of those for 146 yards and a touchdown. Junior Parker Schwarz leads the Buff offense with 1,159 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on just 61 attempts. He is averaging nearly 232 yards per game and 19 yards per carry. Classmate Josh Goodwin has added 443 yards and nine touchdowns. The Buffs take on Anderson County this week.
