Jaxon Garcia, LB, Mill Valley (Clisso)
Garcia (5-10, 190) paces a Mill Valley defense that has allowed 22.1 points per contest. The senior linebacker has registered a team high 83 tackles, including a tackle for loss. Garcia has also forced a fumble and recovered two fumbles. Mill Valley remains in line for a home playoff game if the Jaguars can take care of business against Shawnee Mission North on Friday night.
Jack Herd, LB, South Central (Gilmore)
Herd (6-4, 205) has had a standout career for the South Central Timberwolves. His is seeking his third consecutive season with 100 or more tackles. For his career, Herd has registered 321 total tackles, including 37 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, six interceptions, and three fumble recoveries. This season Herd has 64 stops and 11 tackles for loss with seven sacks. His top-ranked Timberwolves have their biggest challenge of the season when they host unbeaten Oxford for the District 5 championship. Last season, South Central defeated Oxford 78-32 and Herd had 21 tackles in the game.
WaKeeney-Trego, Offensive Line (Nicholl)
The Wakeeney-Trego senior-laden offensive line has opened holes for a 7-0 mark and 47.7 points per game. Trego can complete its first perfect regular season since 2002 with a win at struggling Quinter (3-4). The Golden Eagles were unranked to start the season and has risen to No. 2 in Eight-Man, Division I. WaKeeney has averaged 199 rushing yards per game and 7.3 yards per rush. Plus, Trego senior quarterback Ashton Wynn has thrown for 7.9 yards per attempt. Expect another big offensive night versus the Bulldogs.
Jonovan Wyatt, LB, Wichita Heights (Maycock)
Even with Heights having a down year with a 1-6 record — four of those losses by single digits -- Wyatt has been a bright spot on a defense that has played well. He ranks among the state leaders in tackles with 106, more than double his season total from a year ago, and is averaging just over 15 stops per game. Wyatt has made 66 solo tackles and has recorded 12 tackles for loss. He'll have to be big again if the Falcons are to try and slow down class 4A No. 1 Kapaun Mt. Carmel, which is coming off its first loss of the season.
