The last week of the regular season yielded a couple of rankings changes, notably with Hutchinson’s last second 32-28 win versus Maize in a key Class 5A West battle. As well, Class 1A had key in-class results when Smith Center beat Inman, and Conway Springs held off Sedgwick for district titles. On Saturday, Six-Man football had its state semifinals. Cheylin and Moscow won and will rematch for the Wild West Bowl next Saturday. Moscow captured the title in 2019.

Class 6A
No. 1 Lawrence defeated rival Lawrence Free State, 49-20, and ended the regular season at 7-0. The Lions are the No. 1 seed in 6A West. Devin Neal, the state’s top recruit, rushed for 318 yards. Lawrence defeated Free State for the first time since ’15.
No. 2 Olathe North is 6-1 and the top seed in 6A East. ON ended the regular season with a 37-0 win versus Olathe Northwest. North has a first-round bye.
No. 3 Derby remained in the same spot in the poll with a 48-10 victory versus Maize South. It marked the first ever meeting between the schools. Derby has won back-to-back state titles and has made the last five finals.
No. 4 Junction City had its game cancelled against Highland Park. The Blue Jays have not lost since a one-point defeat to Bishop Carroll in the season opener.
No. 5 Shawnee Mission Northwest delivered another quality victory with a 27-24 victory against Bishop Miege. Ty Black has now accounted for 23 touchdowns. Miege led after the first three quarters. Northwest has a first-round bye.
Class 5A
No. 1 Wichita Northwest rolled over Wichita South, 63-0, and is the only 5A undefeated team. Standout defensive back Wetu Kalomo committed to Northern Illinois this week. Northwest is the back-to-back 5A state runner-up. The Grizzlies only played Wichita public schools this season. Northwest leads 5A in scoring offense and defense with a total margin of 354-30.
No. 2 Mill Valley finished 5-2 and was warming up pregame when Shawnee Mission North cancelled the game. MV averages 46.3 points per game, second-best in 5A.
No. 3 Bishop Carroll completed its highly challenging regular season schedule with a 35-14 win versus St. Thomas Aquinas. Carroll went 5-2, including wins versus Junction City, rival Kapaun Mt. Carmel, Bishop Miege and Aquinas.
No. 4 Topeka Seaman leaps into the top five after beating Centennial League rival Washburn Rural for the second time this season. Seaman's only loss came 34-27 at 6A No. 4 Junction City back in Week 3.
No. 5 Hutchinson continued its massive turnaround with coach Mike Vernon and running back Alec McCuan. Hutchinson defeated Maize, 32-28, and won AVCTL Division I in 2011. The Salthawks have three wins by a combined six points. Hutchinson outgained Maize, 415-231. Myles Thompson had a quarterback sneak in the final six seconds for the game-winning score.
Class 4A
The five Class 4A teams remained unchanged. No. 1 Paola rolled over rival Louisburg, 49-7, and is the only 8-win team in the state’s three largest classifications.
No. 2 Tonganoxie rolled over Ottawa, 49-7. Running back Tyler Bowden has cleared 2,000 yards and continues to lead Kansas in rushing.
No. 3 Bishop Miege, the six-time defending state champions, finished 2-4 after a 27-24 loss to Shawnee Mission Northwest. Northwest is ranked No. 5 in 6A.
No. 4 McPherson defeated Augusta, 32-14. The Bullpups have permitted just 14 points a game. McPherson is 7-1 and has lost in the state semifinals the last three years.
No. 5 Andover Central beat Arkansas City, 37-6. The defending state runner-up to Miege, Andover Central (6-1) is the second seed on the west side of Class 4A.
Class 3A
Class 3A also had no changes in the rankings in a deep classification. No. 1 Andale defeated Wichita Collegiate, 43-14, in a matchup of undefeated teams to capture the district title. The Indians are 7-0 and have won 20 straight contests.
No. 2 Topeka Hayden finished 6-1, 3-0 in District 3 and did not play this week.
No. 3 Perry-Lecompton finished 7-1 and defeated Santa Fe Trail, 52-6. Perry-Lecompton took third in the district behind Topeka Hayden and Baldwin on a district quirk. Baldwin went 2-0 in district play, though had its games versus Hayden and Perry cancelled.
No. 4 Southeast of Saline beat Scott City, 40-6. The Trojans won District 6 and remain the top-ranked scoring defense in 3A.
No. 5 Cheney finished 8-0 in the regular season after a 48-22 victory against Larned. The game was tied at seven early before Cheney score 28 straight points. Cheney is 18-0 against non-Andale teams since the start of last year.
Class 2A
No. 1 Rossville rolled over Mission Valley, 53-0, and leads 2A with 458 points, by far the most in the classification. Rossville is 102 points ahead of Osage City, the second-best offense.
No. 2 Hoisington defeated Beloit, 26-20, and completed an 8-0 regular season. Holt Hanzlick had 105 offensive yards and contributed three offensive scores. Hoisington has posted back-to-back perfect regular seasons.
No. 3 Silver Lake defeated Pleasant Ridge, 51-8, and finished at 5-1. Silver Lake still has not lost a regular season game to a non-Rossville team since a 14-13 loss in Week 3 to Louisburg in 2011.
No. 4 Garden Plain defeated Leon-Bluestem, 57-0, and completed a 7-1 regular season under new coach Dan Adelhardt. Garden Plain posted three regular season shutouts.
No. 5 Maur Hill-Mount Academy finished 7-0 with a 28-14 victory against Riverside. Maur Hill and Nemaha Central were both undefeated in districts, though did not play each other. Nemaha Central won the district based on average marginal points. It marked Maur Hill’s first undefeated regular season since 1984, according to the Kansas Football History database.
Class 1A
No. 1 Olpe rolled over Northeast-Arma, 59-0, and is 8-0 as the only undefeated team left in Class 1A.
No. 2 Centralia won its seventh straight game with a 60-20 victory versus Wabaunsee. The Panthers are 7-1 and won 1A last year.
No. 3 Smith Center has captured seven straight victories and won at Inman, 29-22. Smith Center allowed more than 20 points in a game for the first time since the ’18 playoffs. SC is 7-1 and won District 3.
No. 4 Conway Springs led by 20 points in the fourth quarter before Sedgwick delivered a comeback. Conway Springs eventually won 41-35, the first district loss for Sedgwick since ’10. The visiting Cardinals outgained Sedgwick, 531-395 with all of Conway Springs’ yards coming on the ground.
No. 5 Valley Heights cruised to a 76-0 win over Northern Heights. The Mustangs rushed for more than 350 yards in the game and held the Wildcats to minus-9 yards of total offense.
Eight-Man Division I
Eight-Man, Division I has had virtually no changes in weeks for the rankings, and that remained the same. No. 1 Canton-Galva defeated Lincoln, 70-8. Canton-Galva has won 21 straight games, the longest current winning streak in Kansas football.
No. 2 Leoti-Wichita County rolled over another quality opponent with a 60-12 victory versus South Gray. Both teams entered 7-0. Wichita County ended a long drought without a district title. The Indians have enjoyed a huge turnaround under third-year coach Brant Douglas, though had not captured districts in the last two seasons.
No. 3 Madison won its seventh straight game by the 45-point margin with a 62-0 victory against Central Burden.
No. 4 Clifton-Clyde did not play in Week 8 and finished 6-1 in the regular season. The Eagles went just 2-0 in districts because of continued cancellations by their opponents.
No. 5 Little River dominated Solomon, 64-0, and finished 6-2 in the regular season with losses to top-ranked Canton-Galva and No. 4 Clifton-Clyde.
Eight-Man, Division II
Two of the top-five Division II teams did not play this week.
No. 1 Saint Francis did not play and completed a 7-0 regular season. The Indians have not lost in the regular season under third-year coach Nick Fawcett.
No. 2 Hanover finished a 6-0 regular season after a 72-6 victory versus Wetmore.
No. 3 Victoria finished 8-0 after a 54-0 win versus Otis-Bison. The Knights have their first perfect regular season since ’15.
No. 4 Lebo beat Marais des Cygnes Valley, 8-0. Lebo has already won its most games since an 8-2 season in 2011. This marks the first regular season since ’09.
No. 5 Frankfort went 4-1 in the regular season and has not played since Week 5.
6-Man
No. 1 Cheylin is 8-0 and beat rival Golden Plains, 61-14, in the state semifinals on Saturday. Cheylin will face Moscow in the Wild West Bowl next Saturday in Dodge City.
No. 2 Moscow is 6-1 and defeated Cunningham, 58-12, on Saturday. Moscow is the defending Wild West Bowl champions after a win versus Cheylin last year.
No. 3 Golden Plains beat previously No. 3 Ashland, 62-47, in the playoffs last Tuesday. Golden Plains lost to rival Cheylin in the semifinals on Friday.
