6-MAN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
South-No. 1 Moscow (9-0) vs North-No. 1 Cheylin (9-0)
The Moscow Wildcats will take on the Cheylin Cougars to decide the 6-Man Football State Championship. The game, named the Wild West Bowl, will be played on Saturday at 4:00 pm in Dodge City.
Moscow and Cheylin have been the top two teams in 6-Man football this season. Moscow captured the South Division title and reached the title game in just its second season of 6-Man football. The Wildcats average 50 points per game while allowing 23.5 per contest. Moscow reached the title game with a 62-53 win over Weskan. The Wildcats trailed 28-21 at halftime before outscoring the Coyotes 41-25 in the second half. Austin Snyder rushed for five touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass to Ryan Penrod in the win. Adan Granillo added a pair of rushing scores and Gerardo Garcia also scored on a touchdown run for Moscow.
For the season, Snyder has rushed for more than 1,000 yards and scored 25 touchdowns. He’s also one of 6-Man’s top defensive players with six interceptions and seven fumble recoveries. Granillo is ultra-quick out of the backfield. He has 14 rushing touchdowns, but his attempts have been limited some since switching to quarterback.
Cheylin features standout quarterback Colton McCarty. McCarty passed for 195 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s 52-36 win over Golden Plains. McCarty, however, seems to do most of his damage with his legs. McCarty rushed 37 times for 394 yards and five more touchdowns in last week’s semifinal win. The junior has now rushed for 2,146 yards and 38 touchdowns this season, while passing for 1,067 yards and 19 more scores. McCarty’s classmates Andrew Schields and Tyler Sabatka have also been dangerous. Schields has 54 catches for 603 yards and 12 touchdowns, while Sabatka has 441 receiving yards and seven scores. Sabatka has added 278 yards rushing and five touchdowns, while Schields has 233 rush yards and four scores. Joseph Melton has added 284 rushing yards and five more touchdown to the Cougars totals.
6-MAN CONSOLATION GAME
North-No. 2 Weskan (6-4) vs North-No. 3 Golden Plains (6-4)
A unique attribute about 6-Man football is the consolation game that will take place at 1:00 pm Saturday at Dodge City. The consolation game will be followed by the presentation of the Kpreps 6-Man All-State Football Team and the Wild West Bowl 6-Man Championship Game.
The consolation game features Weskan and Golden Plains. The Coyotes and Bulldogs finished second and third in the North Division this season with Weskan winning the head-to-head contest, 53-28.
Weskan fell to Moscow, 62-53, last week to end their chances at a third 6-Man title in four years. The Coyotes led 28-21 at halftime, but couldn’t slow down Moscow in the second half. Jace Mackley threw five touchdown passes, including three to his brother Dalton in the loss. Mackley also rushed for a touchdown and returned a kickoff for another score.
Golden Plains lost to Cheylin 52-36. The Bulldogs got 117 yards rushing and a touchdown from Harley Weese, but ultimately couldn’t slow down Cheylin’s Colton McCarty. Golden Plains quarterback Rojelio Loya passed for 192 yards in the game and rushed for a touchdown. Weese, Rojelio Loya, and Roberto Loya eached rushed for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass in the game. For the season, Weese has rushed for 1,455 yards and 25 scores. Roberto Loya is second on the team with 638 yards and 11 touchdowns, while Rojelio has rushed for 516 yards and 11 scores.

Kansas Christian Athletic Association (KCAA)
No. 2 St. Mary’s Academy (6-1) vs No. 1 Wichita Homeschool (8-0)
The St. Mary’s Academy Crusaders will take on the Wichita Homeschool Warriors for the Kansas Christian Athletic Association state title game for the fourth consecutive season. St. Mary’s Academy has won the last three state titles over the Warriors 50-42 last season, 40-14 in 2017, and 30-24 in overtime back in 2016.
St. Mary’s only loss came to Wichita Homeschool, 54-6, back in Week 3 of the regular season. Since then, the Crusaders have won five straight games including last week’s 64-16 win over Cair Paravel in the semifinal. The Crusaders have averaged 44 points per game while alloowing 25 per game.
Wichita Homeschool has rolled to an unbeaten season by defeating opponents by an average margin of 60 to 8. Last week, the Warriors advanced with a 52-6 win over Manhattan-Flint Hills Christian. Senior quarterback Will Day completed 20 of 33 pass attempts for 296 yards and six touchdowns. Luke Johnson paced the Warrior rushing attack with 70 yards, but also caught ten passes for 137 yards and two scores.
For the season, Day has passed for 1,969 yards and 43 touchdowns against only one interception. He also leads the ground attack with 361 yards and eight scores, while Johnson has 348 yards and four touchdowns. Carson Emmot is the leading receiver with 30 catches for 759 yards and 17 touchdowns, while Johnson has 561 receiving yards (9 TD) and Kip Ammons has 499 yards (11TD).
