Name: Cale McMakin

High School: Blue Valley West High School

Position in high school: Linebacker/Receiver

Height: 6’1

Weight: 210

College you plan to attend: Western Illinois University

Scholarship / Walk-on: Scholarship

Planned position in college: Linebacker

Other colleges recruited you or showed interest: Northern Iowa, SEMO, South Dakota, Southern Illinois, Missouri State

Why you chose the college you plan to attend: It was a really good fit for me. All the coaches really care about the athlete’s success on and off the field. I also had a really good vibe with all the players and commits. I really like the pride and tradition of WIU.

Were you recruited to play other sports at the collegiate level: No

Notes / stats from high school career: 169 career tackles (School Record), 6 career interceptions (2 were returned for touchdowns), 6 career sacks, 8 career receiving TDs

Senior Year: 1st Team all-state linebacker, 2nd Team all EKL Linebacker, Elected Team Captain

Favorite high school football memory: We got to play Bishop Miege 2nd round in the playoffs for the second year in a row. The first year they beat us on a failed QB sneak at the one yard line. This time I had two of five interceptions and we won by a few touchdowns at their place.

Kpreps comment: McMakin was a Kpreps 5A All-State selection this past season at linebacker. He helped the Jaguars to an 8-4 finish and a spot in the 5A state semifinals. Cale has the speed to cover sideline to sideline and has shown the ability to cover with six interceptions in his career.

Editor's Note: It is important to remember that all college commitments are verbal and not truly finalized until the student-athletes sign National Letters of Intent on February 5th.
