HUTCHINSON – The Andale Indians won their second consecutive Class 3A state championship and pushed their current winning streak to 26 games with a 38-6 victory over Topeka Hayden on Friday night at Huchinson’s Gowans Stadium.

After a scoreless first quarter that saw each time sustain drives into opposing territory, Andale broke the drought with a 1-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Sam Harp. Jrayton Dansel added the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead mid-way through the second quarter.

A few minutes later, the Indians were back in the end zone as Harp hit Crus Kaiser on a pass. As Kaiser turned toward the goal line, the ball was stripped by the Hayden defender and fumbled into the end zone where it was recovered by Andale’s Hunter Grimes for the score. Dansel again went around the right side for the two-point conversion and a 16-0 lead.

Hayden opened the second half with the football and cashed in a four-and-a-half-minute drive with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Connor Hanika to Kade Mitchell. Hanika’s two-point pass was incomplete leaving Andale up 16-6.

The Wildcats seemed to have some momentum with an interception, but fumbled the ball right back over to Andale shortly after. It was one of three Wildcat turnovers in the game.

Andale quickly converted the turnover into points as Harp broke free for a 46-yard run to extend the lead to 22-6.

After a Hayden punt, the Indians wasted little time in scoring on a 5-yard run by Jack Horsch to lead 30-6 after three quarters.

The Indian defense came up with a second interception on Hayden’s next drive, and Harp capped off his 144-yard night with his third rushing touchdown to lead 38-6.

True to their form, the Indians used their dominating offensive line to rush for 330 yards, averaging 8.0 yards per attempt on the ground. Lane Parthemer added 60 yards on three carries, while Horsch added 51 yards, Afton Allaire 46 yards, and Noah Stanley 31 yards on two attempts.

Harp finished 4 of 7 passing for 72 yards.

Hanika passed for 133 yards to lead Topeka Hayden. Wildcat standout Kade Mitchell returned after missing the past couple of weeks with an injury. Despite not being 100 percent, Mitchell rushed for 45 yards and caught a touchdown pass.

The win was another dominant performance for Andale in capturing the schools’ ninth overall state football title, and their sixth in the past seven seasons.

Andale finished a perfect 13-0 on the season. Hayden finished 12-1.
