Cheylin captured the fifth annual 6-Man Wild West Bowl Championship with a 46-0 victory over Moscow on Saturday in Dodge City.

The Cougars completed a perfect 9-0 season with a dominating performance in the title game. With the Moscow defense keyed in on 6-Man offensive player of the year Colton McCarty, it was freshman quarterback Logan McCarty, Colton’s brother, that came up huge. Logan completed 21 of 26 passes for 320 yards and three touchdowns and added 47 yards rushing and three more scores.

Colton McCarty gained only 23 yards rushing on nine attempts, but had five receptions for 102 yards and two scores. Drew Schields had a team-high nine catches for 107 yards and a touchdown and Tyler Sabatka added three catches for 83 yards.

The Cheylin defense was impressive in holding Moscow scoreless. Freshman Pablo Bermudez registered a team-high 12 tackles and an interception – his eighth of the season.

For Colton McCarty, the 6-Man title caps an incredible career in which he completed 54 percent of his passes for 3,464 yards and 71 touchdowns with only nine interceptions. McCarty also rushed for 6,386 yards and 111 touchdowns on his career and had 15 career receptions for 310 yards and seven scores.

This was Cheylin’s first-ever state championship in athletics.
