We have only two weeks remaining in the regular season. We’ll start to see more and more teams clinch playoff spots this week in the smaller classifications. Meanwhile, we’re starting to see what the seeding picture will be in the large classes. Find out what our rankings look like this week.

Class 6A
The top five in Class 6A remain the same again this week.
Top-ranked Lawrence won its showdown with then Class 5A No. 1 St. Thomas Aquinas, 39-27. The Chesty Lions took advantage of a couple of early Saint fumbles to build a 20-0 lead then held on for the victory.
Derby returned from two weeks in quarantine rolled to a 48-13 victory at Haysville Campus. Campus had also missed the past two weeks due to quarantine. Derby has a tough road trip at Class 5A No. 4 Maize this week.
Olathe North nearly overtook Derby for the No. 2 spot this week, but the Eagles remain ranked third by just a couple of votes. Olathe North rolled to a 52-7 win over Shawnee Mission East on Friday. The Eagles have their biggest testo f the season this week when they travel to No. 1 Lawrence.
Fourth-ranked Junction City cruised to a 54-20 win over Topeka High on Friday. The Blue Jays scored 40 points in the first half and quarterback Andrew Khoury threw for more than 200 yards and three touchdowns.
Shawnee Mission Northwest remains at No. 5 this week. The Cougars found out on Friday morning that their scheduled opponent, Olathe Northwest, would have to cancel due to COVID-19 concerns. Shawnee Mission Northwest quickly found a replacement in Shawnee Mission South who was in a similar situation. The Cougars defeated the Raiders 49-26. The two teams are scheduled to meet again in Week 8.
Class 5A
The voting atop the Class 5A poll has remained very close in the past few weeks. This week is no exception.
Wichita Northwest takes over the top spot this week after last week’s No. 1, St. Thomas Aquinas, fell to 6A No. 1 Lawrence. The Saints drop to No. 3 in this week’s 5A poll with defending champion Mill Valley moving up to No. 2. The Jaguars got a huge boost with the return of senior quarterback Cooper Marsh from injury. Marsh, who had missed the Jaguars’ past two games, help his offense explode for 48 points in the first half as Mill Valley rolled Olathe West, 69-14.
The three teams don’t get much of a break this week. Wichita Northwest will have their toughest test of the regular-season when then take on unbeaten Wichita East. Meanwhile, Mill Valley will host unbeaten Olathe East, and Aquinas will travel to Omaha-Westside – the No. 1 team in Nebraska.
Maize stays in the No. 4 spot his week after that dramatic 42-38 win over rival Maize South. Josh Sanders scored with :57 seconds left to deliver the Ealges’ third consecutive win in the series. Maize will host Class 6A No. 2 Derby this week.
Bishop Carroll stays in the No. 5 spot in this week’s poll. The Golden Eagles did not play this week after losing their scheduled opponent, Lawrence Free State, due to restrictions related to COVID-19. Carroll will be on the road at 4A No. 1 Bishop Miege this week.
Class 5A has a lot of depth this season with several teams sitting just outside the top five including, De Soto, Topeka Seaman, Kapaun Mt. Carmel, Maize South, Goddard, Hays, and Hutchinson.
Class 4A
Bishop Miege went on the road and defeated Wamego, 41-14. Quarterback Timothy Dorsey was consistent throwing the ball again, but the story was Josh Conklin and the Stag ground game. Conklin rushed for 262 yards and two touchdowns as Miege evened its record at 2-2. The Stags will host Class 5A No. 5 Bishop Carroll this week.
Second-ranked Paola pulled away from KC Piper, 42-16 on Friday to improve to 6-0. The Panthers will travel to Eudora this week before their annual rivalry game against Louisburg in Week 8.
Third-ranked Tonganoxie played Southern Boone (Mo.) on Saturday and rolled past the Eagles, 52-13. Senior running back Tyler Bowden rushed for 273 yards and seven touchdowns in the victory to push his season total to 1,575 yards and 23 touchdowns. The Chieftains will host Class 6A Shawnee Mission East this week in a replacement game for both teams.
McPherson continues to hold down the No. 4 spot week after an 18-6 victory against Buhler. The Bullpups will travel to Mulvane this week before closing out the regular season against Augusta.
Lansing stays in the poll at No. 5 this week just ahead of Andover Central. The Lions survived trip to Pittsburg with a 21-20 victory. Pittsburg scored on the game’s final play, but an excessive celebration penalty pushed back the PAT attempt, which eventually sailed wide right.
Class 3A
In Class 3A, top-ranked Andale did not gain its 19th consecutive victory last Friday, but that’s because the Indians didn’t play. Andale’s scheduled opponent, Wichita Trinity, cancelled late in the week due to COVID concerns. Andale is back in action this week against Clearwater (5-1).
Second-ranked Perry-Lecompton cruised to a 58-6 win over Osawatomie to set this week’s district showdown with No. 3 Topeka Hayden. Hayden was also victorious on Friday with a 49-14 decision over Santa Fe Trial.
Fourth-ranked Southeast of Saline did not play this week. The Trojans’ scheduled game with Goodland was cancelled due to COVID concerns with the Cowboys. Southeast of Saline will travel to Smoky Valley this week.
Cheney remains ranked fifth this week – one vote behind Southeast of Saline. The Cardinals won a district showdown with previously-unbeaten Holcomb, 31-28. Cheney is scheduled to travel to Nickerson this week.
Class 2A
Top-ranked Rossville cruised to another big victory, 69-6 over Pleasant Ridge. The Bulldawgs will host No. 2 Silver Lake in the “War on 24” this week. Silver Lake remained unbeaten with a 49-8 win over McLouth last week.
Hoisington remains in the No. 3 spot after a 37-7 win over Ellsworth. The Cardinals are scheduled to travel to Norton this week in what would be a rematch of last year’s 2A-West substate semifinal. Norton, however, had to cancel their scheduled contest with Beloit due to COVID concerns and their status for this week is still unknown.
Fourth-ranked Hutchinson Trinity cruised to a 40-7 victory over Sterling. The Celtics have a pair of challenging district games remaining on their schedule in a trip to Haven and a home game with Hillsboro.
Finally, Maur Hill-Mount Academy remains in the poll at No. 5 this week barely ahead of Garden Plain and defending champion Nemaha Central. The Ravens had to quarantine which cost them their district game against Nemaha Central.
Class 1A
Olpe stays in the top spot after posting a 35-0 shutout to a 62-0 shutout at Jackson Heights. The Eagles will be heavily favored in the final two district games against Northern Heights and Northeast-Arma.
Second-ranked Centralia added a home game with Beloit on Friday morning as their schedule opponent, Horton, cancelled. The Panthers then went out and pulled away from Beloit, 36-6. Centralia has a huge non-district game this week against No. 5 Lyndon. Lyndon improved to 5-1 with a 49-0 shutout of Central Heights.
Third-ranked Smith Center scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to get past Mid-Continent League rival Plainville, 19-7. The Redmen will host Ell-Saline this week before a big Week 8 district showdown with Inman.
Conway Springs’ Heath Hilger returned the opening kickoff back for a touchdown and the fourth-ranked Cardinals never looked back during a 55-0 win at Sublette. Hilger later added a rushing touchdown and threw a pair of touchdown passes in the game. The Cardinals will host winless Stanton County this week.
Class 8M-I
Top-ranked Canton-Galva rolled to a 50-0 victory over Herington. The Eagles, which have posted shutouts in four of their six games, will return home this week to take on Solomon.
Second-ranked Leoti-Wichita County continued to roll through a really competitive District 7. The Indians traveled to Meade and defeated the Buffaloes, 60-14, on Friday. Wichita County will host Spearville (4-2) this week.
Third-ranked Madison won a key district game against Chase County, 60-14. Senior Hunter Engle rushed for 165 yards and six touchdowns in the victory. The win puts the Bulldogs in the driver’s seat for the District 2 title.
Finally, Clifton-Clyde, remains in the No. 4 spot this week despite a 40-20 loss to 8-Man, Division II’s No. 2 Hanover. This game was added on Friday morning given both teams lost originally scheduled opponents. Clifton-Clyde remains just in front of No. 5 Little River, who the Ealges defeated earlier this season in overtime, 42-36.
Class 8M-II
The top five in Eight-Man, Division II remains the same this week.
Top-ranked Saint Francis cruised to 46-0 win over Quinter. The Indians have posted shutouts in three of their five games and have only surrendered 14 points all season. Saint Francis will host Wheatland-Grinnell (5-1) this week in a game that will determine the District 8 title.
As mentioned above, No. 2 Hanover doubled-up 8M-I No. 4 Clifton-Clyde in a game added late in the week.
Third-ranked Victoria may have sealed the District 5 title with a 50-34 victory over Wilson. The Knights trailed by 10 in the third quarter before Grant Schoenrock added an offensive and defensive touchdown to put Victoria ahead.
Fourth-ranked Lebo did not play due to a forfeit by scheduled opponent, Centre-Lost Springs. The Wolves are scheduled to return to action this week against Rural Vista.
Finally, Frankfort also did not play as the Wildcats had to enter quarantine. As a result, Frankfort lost their scheduled district game with Hanover and may not play again until the playoffs.
6-Man Football
Top-ranked Cheylin won at Natoma, 52-12, and led 20-0 after the first quarter. Both teams entered the game undefeated. Natoma closed to 20-12 late in the second quarter. Cheylin scored with just over a minute remaining in the first half. Freshman Logan McCarty found freshman Pablo Bermudez on a 26-yard pass to set up the touchdown for a 27-12 halftime lead. Cheylin star back Colton McCarty rushed 25 times for 298 yards and six touchdowns.
Second-ranked Ashland and Cunningham are both 3-0 in 6-Man South. Ashland is 3-0 and Cunningham stands at 4-0. Ashland had its Oct. 5 game versus Cunningham cancelled and is open this week.
Third-ranked Moscow had its Oct. 2 game versus Pawnee Heights cancelled and then was also cancelled Oct. 9.
