In our Picks to Click, we feature several players or units from across the state that we feel will have breakout performances on Friday night.

This season, we’ve assembled a team of media members across the state to each select one player (or unit) each week.  We will track the cumulative statistics of our selections throughout the season similar to fantasy scoring.

Picks to Click contributors for the 2020 season include: Sean Boston (Southwind Broadcasting); Dion Clisso (PrepsKC.com); Matt Gilmore (Kpreps.com); Alex Hammeke (Kpreps.com), Chet Kuplen (Sports in Kansas); Brent Maycock (Topeka Capital Journal); Conor Nicholl (Kpreps.com); and Mark Schremmer (Kansas Chronicles & Kpreps.com).

Check back next Thursday to see our picks for Week 6, and how the players performed that we picked the week prior. See the bottom of this article for details.

Dylan Bice, QB, Thunder Ridge (Schremmer)

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound sophomore quarterback has been a force through the air and on the ground for the Longhorns. Through four games, Bice has rushed for 742 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for 318 yards and seven touchdowns. During last week’s 68-50 win over Lakeside, he ran for 225 yards and five touchdowns while still throwing for 148 yards and a TD.

Jacquez Coleman, QB, Colony-Crest (Nicholl)

Colony-Crest is quietly off to a 4-0 start and has scored 46, 64, 72 and 58 points in its victories behind its single wing. This week, Crest has a key matchup against Waverly (2-2) in a matchup that will likely decide Eight-Man, Division II, District 1. Senior quarterback Jacquez Coleman has enjoyed a strong season with 156 passing yards and four touchdowns, along with 375 rushing yards and seven TDs. Coleman, the team’s primary quarterback and second-leading rusher in ’19, will be heavily counted on Friday.

Parker Kavanaugh, QB, Salina Central (Hammeke)

While the Salina Central Mustangs are 0-4 on the year, quarterback Parker Kavanaugh has put up impressive numbers so far this season. Kavanaugh is 92 of 145 (63%) passing for 988 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions. The Mustangs take on 1-3 Arkansas City in a good shot to get their first win.

Peyton Maxwell, WR, Newton (Kuplen)

Despite starting the season 0-4 against a tough schedule, Newton has shown the ability to put up a lot of points. The Railers have averaged 33.5 points per game thus far against four opponents that are a combined 13-1. A big part of that offense has been senior receiver Peyton Maxwell. Maxwell (6-0, 165) has 641 receiving yards through four games and has helped quarterback Ben Schmidt be among the state leaders in passing yards at 1,321. Newton gets another big challenge this week against Maize South (2-1).

Rossville Offensive Line (Maycock)

If Rossville had any question marks offensively going into this season it was up front where graduation claimed All-2A standout Kody Davoren and one other starter. So far, the group -- Kris Brown, Joe McGrath, Bryson Balch, Brody Lietz, Rapheal Cooney and Jacob Carver -- has performed at a high level, helping the Bulldawgs average 404 yards and 55.7 points per game. This week, Rossville gets an Oskaloosa team that gave up 96 points and 591 yards to Silver Lake a week ago.

Harrison Voth, QB, Cheney (Boston)

Voth has been the key driver in the Cheney offense that has helped the Cardinals to a 4-0 start and the No. 5 ranking in Class 3A. The senior has passed for 951 yards in the first four weeks and has a pair of capable receivers in Logan Bartlett (441 yards) and Luke Grace (261 yards). Cheney has averaged nearly 47 points per game and is the favorite in 3A, District 8, although unbeaten Holcomb looms next week. Frist, Voth and the Cardinals have to get by Pratt which opened district play last week with a win over Larned.

McClain Weekley, RB/LB, Santa Fe Trail (Gilmore)

Weekley (5-10, 180) is putting up strong numbers in his senior campaign through four games. The senior running back has rushed for a team-high 607 yards and six touchdowns on 79 carries, and also has a 61-yard touchdown catch. Weekley has been equally impressive on the defensive side of the ball from his linebacker position. Weekley has posted 64 total tackles through four games – easily tops on the team. In addition, Weekley has intercepted a pass and forced a fumble. This week, the Chargers will host Bishop Ward in a key game in District 3 that could ultimately help decide a playoff spot.

Steven Whitter, WR, Blue Valley Northwest (Clisso)

Whitter (5-9, 150) is coming off of a huge game in the Huskies’ 40-17 win over Blue Valley West last week. The junior wideout caught 11 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns. This week, Blue Valley Northwest (2-0) will be the road team at Blue Valley Southwest (0-1).
