Class 6A
Derby had little issue in rolling past Salina South, 55-7. The Panthers got four rushing touchdowns from senior quarterback Grant Adler. Derby will host Hutchinson (1-4) this week.
Olathe North remains ranked second after a 41-21 win over rival Olathe South on Thursday. The Eagles received another big performance from junior running back Arland Bruce, IV with 195 yards and four touchdowns. The Eagles will travel to take on Shawnee Mission East (2-3) this week.
Lawrence High holds down the No. 3 spot after an impressive 51-20 win over previously-unbeaten Shawnee Mission Northwest. The Lion defense held the SM Northwest offense to 14 points and limited Cougar quarterback Ty Black and receiver Ty Lindenman to well below their offensive season averages.
Gardner-Edgerton stays in the No. 4 this week after rolling to a 51-7 victory over Olathe Northwest. The Blazers built a 41-0 lead at halftime as four different players scored on offense and the defense also got a pick-six. Gardner-Edgerton will play Thursday at Shawnee Mission North.
Jake Wolff passed for 225 yards and three touchdowns as No. 5 Blue Valley beat Blue Valley Northwest, 44-18. The Tigers now get a huge showdown at Bishop Miege this week. The Tigers and Stags are both tied for second place in the Eastern Kansas League behind St. Thomas Aquinas.
Class 5A
Top-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas built a 35-7 lead and held on to beat Blue Valley West, 35-21. The Saints got 199 rushing yards and three touchdowns from Tank Young in the win. Aquinas will take on St. James Academy (3-2) this week.
Wichita Northwest recorded its second shutout of the season by blanking Kapaun Mt. Carmel, 45-0. Julius Bolden rushed for 205 yards and four touchdowns in the win. Th Grizzlies will host Garden City (2-3) next week.
Maize and De Soto switch places in this week’s poll. The Eagles move up a spot to No. 3 after a 42-0 shutout of Goddard. Meanwhile, De Soto also recorded a shutout, 14-0, over Spring Hill. Maize will host Salina South (1-4) this week, while De Soto will travel to Basehor-Linwood (3-2).
Bishop Carroll rallied from down a touchdown at half to claim a 28-14 win over Great Bend. The Golden Eagles will take on rival Kapaun Mt. Carmel this week in the Holy War.
Class 4A
Top-ranked Bishop Miege rebounded from a loss to St. James Academy by stepping across state lines and pulled away from Missouri-power Rockhurst, 34-7. After falling behind by a touchdown, Miege scored 34 consecutive points in the game. Tim Dorsey passed for two scores and Brison Cobbins rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns for the Stags.
Second-ranked McPherson stays undefeated after beating previously-unbeaten Buhler, 21-14. The Bullpups built a 21-0 lead before Buhler scored a pair of late touchdowns. McPherson will travel to Augusta (2-3) this week.
Paola remains ranked No. 3 this week after blowing out Baldwin, 56-0. Connor Hasz had another huge game for the Panthers in rushing for touchdown runs of 75, 5, and 65 yards in the first half. Paola will host KC Piper (3-2) this week.
Tonganoxie moves up one spot this week after a 21-12 victory over KC Piper. The Chieftains held a slim 7-6 lead for much of the game until Cooper Cunningham pushed across a short touchdown run early in the fourth quarter for a 14-6 lead. Cunningham rushed for 235 yards and two scores in the game. Tonganoxie will host Spring Hill (2-3) this week.
Finally, Andover Central drops a spot to No. 5 this week after a 24-17 loss to 5A unbeaten Maize South. The Jaguars will look to rebound this week against another 5A opponent, Great Bend (2-3).
Class 3A
Top-ranked Andale throttled Wichita Trinity 78-0 in a game that was called at halftime. The Indians will travel to Wichita Collegiate this week. The Spartans (4-1) suffered their first loss of the season last Friday when they fell to Cheney.
Marysville remains at No. 2 this week after winning a battle at Wamego, 20-17. The Bulldogs fell behind 14-0 early after a pair of turnovers, then rallied to tie the game at 14 by halftime on two Storm Slupianek touchdowns. After Wamego took a 20-17 lead, Atreyau Hornbeak scored from 30 yards out to give Marysville the winning score.
Topeka Hayden stays at No. 3 this week after a hard-fought 13-6 victory over previously-unbeaten Jefferson West. The Wildcats rushed for more than 250 yards in the game, but also had three turnovers.
Fourth-ranked Sabetha rolled to a 53-0 victory over Hiawatha to start a new winning streak. The Blue Jays had their 23-game streak stopped in a 40-32 loss to Marysville last week. Sabetha will travel to Holton (4-1) in another key district game this week.
Finally, Scott City stays at No. 5 with a 41-0 shutout at Russell. The Beavers still haven’t allowed an offensive touchdown on the season, and have given up only 10 total points in five games.
Class 2A
Hoisington won the battle of unbeatens with a 49-7 decision over Ellsworth. Wyatt Pedigo rushed for a pair of first-half touchdown and scored on the defensive side of the ball by returning an interception for a touchdown in the second half.
Second-ranked Silver Lake cruised to another dominating district win, 48-0 over Central Heights. The Eagles have now posted three consecutive shutouts. Silver Lake takes on one-win West Franklin this week.
Garden Plain remains in the No. 3 spot this week after a 48-0 shutout of Hutchinson Trinity. Matt Pauly passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another score in the win. Garden Plain will host Chaparral (3-2) this week.
Up a spot to No. 4 this week is Humboldt after the Cubs hammered Erie, 64-0. Humboldt will host Riverton (3-2) this week in what will be a key game in District 1 between two likely playoffs teams.
Finally, Conway Springs returns to the poll this week after blowing out Wichita Independent, 64-8. The Cardinals will travel to winless Whitewater-Remington this week.
Southeast of Saline falls out of this week’s poll after a 43-7 loss to Rossville on Saturday afternoon.
Class 1A
Top-ranked Smith Center won the Mid-Continent League championship outright for the first time since 2009 by virtue of a 42-0 win at Oakley. Quarterback Trenton Colby threw three touchdown passes in the win. Smith Center will travel to winless Sacred Heart this week.
Second-ranked Olpe got a kickoff return touchdown from Dawson Soyez to open the game and never slowed down in a 67-0 rout of Uniontown. Olpe scored 27 points in each of the first and second quarters in the win.
Plainville held of a deceiving Republic County team, 34-22. The Cardinals again played without standout Jared Casey. Although Republic County is in the midst of a 24-game losing streak, this year’s Buffaloes have been competitive in all five games with two losses by only seven points. Republic County’s losses have come to five opponents that are a combined 19-6.
Centralia moves up a spot to No. 4 this week after a 46-12 victory at Troy. The Panthers now begin a challenging district that includes Northern Heights (4-1) and Valley Heights (4-1).
Finally, Sedgwick gained enough votes to sneak into the poll at No. 5 this week. The Cardinals have put up big numbers in averaging more than 48 points per game, although their schedule ranks 28th strongest out of 31 according to PrepPowerIndex.com.
Class 8M-I
Top-ranked Canton-Galva rolled to another big shutout victory – 56-0 over Peabody-Burns. The Eagles will take on a solid Goessel (4-1) team this week.
Second-ranked Saint Francis survived a wild finish in defeating Hoxie, 30-28. Trailing by two, Hoxie had five attempts to score inside the Saint Francis 5-yard line in the final minute and couldn’t convert. Saint Francis will take on undefeated Leoti-Wichita County this week.
Third-ranked South Central is closing in on No. 2 Saint Francis in the voting. The Timberwolves are just one vote behind the Indians in this week’s poll. South Central rolled to a 48-0 victory over Medicine Lodge last week. The T-Wolves will travel to Caldwell (4-1) this week.
After last week’s wild 68-58 victory over Maranatha Academy, Madison avoided a letdown with a 50-0 victory over Lyon County League rival Lebo. The Bulldogs will host Valley Falls (1-4) this week.
Finally, Clifton-Clyde replaces Victoria in the No. 5 spot this week. The Eagles and Knights were right behind each other in the poll last week and met on the field on Friday night. Clifton-Clyde won the game 28-14.
Class 8M-II
Top-ranked Hanover and No. 2 Axtell each took care of business last week ahead of their Week 6 district showdown. Hanover beat Onaga, 56-6, while Axtell blitzed Wetmore, 74-24. Hanover will host this week’s contest. Last season, Hanover won the regular-season game 50-42, then won the state semifinal match, 60-14.
Third-ranked Osborne cruised to a 46-0 victory over a solid Logan-Palco team. The Bulldogs got 134 rushing yards and five touchdowns from senior Darrien Holloway. Osborne will host Wilson this week.
St. Paul rolled to a 76-14 district win over Altoona-Midway. The Indians will continue their race through District 1 with a trip to Marmaton Valley this week.
Finally, Thunder Ridge remains in the poll at No. 5 this week. The Longhorns slipped by Sylvan-Lucas Unified last week, 34-30. Reece Struckhoff rushed for 284 yards and scored five touchdowns in the game.
