6A BOYS

  • (1) Blue Valley Northwest 65, (8) Wichita North 44 - The top seed in Class 6A was never in trouble as Blue Valley West jumped on Wichita North, 21-8 in the first quarter of their opening round win. The Huskies had three players in double-figures as Vince Fritz, Clayton Custer, and Ben Richardson scored 18, 17, and 13 respectively. Custer also added 11 rebounds. Tarius Williams led Wichita North with 13 points.
  • (4) Maize 44, (5) Olathe East 43 - Maize slipped by Olathe East, 44-43 in the second game in Class 6A. Jacob Horsch of Maize High School grabbed his own rebound off of a missed three-pointer and hit a running floater to put Maize on top 44-43 with less than 15 seconds to go. Aaron Shaw led the Eagles with 18 points including 3-3 from three-point range and 5-6 from the line. Olathe East's Caelan Neal led all scorers with 20 in the losing effort.
  • (2) Wichita East 70, (7) Wichita Southeast 59 - The Wichita East Blue Aces won the rubber-match against rival Southeast, 70-59 at Koch Arena. The two teams had split their regular season contests. Zach Jackson led all scorers with 25 points for East. Tyas Martin added 20 and Samajae Jones chipped in 11. The Golden Buffaloes were led by Jordan Murdock with 22 points.
     
  • (6) Blue Valley North 66, (3) Shawnee Mission Northwest  57 - Cooper Cook scored 19 and Jawan Emery had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead Blue Valley North over Shawnee Mission Northwest in the final game of the Boys Class 6A quarterfinals. The Mustangs went 22-26 from the free-throw line and had a 39-24 rebounding edge in the victory.


5A GIRLS

  • (1) Leavenworth 71, (8) Goddard-Eisenhower 37 - Leavenworth showed why it is the team to beat in 5A using 21-4 third quarter margin to bury Goddard-Eisenhower, 71-37. The Pioneers, who were up by 40 at one point in the second-half, were led by LaToshia Jones and Rachel Blackburn with 14 and 12 points respectively.
  • (5) Kapaun Mt. Carmel 35, (4) St. Thomas Aquinas 34 - Janay Jacobs scored her only points of the game on a drive and layup at the buzzer as Kapaun knocked off defending champion Aquinas, 35-34. Jacobs took the ball coast-to-coast with nine seconds left to left the Crusaders to the win.
  • (2) Salina Central 63, (7) St. James Academy 31 - Shaelyn Martin poured in 22 points and had 7 rebounds and 5 assists in the Mustangs dominating win over St. James Academy. It was Salina Central's first state tournament victory since 1985 and only their second victory ever (Salina Journal Sports).
     
  • (3) Great Bend 60, (6) Topeka Seaman 46 -- Great Bend went on an 8-0 run after trailing 29-28 to start the fourth quarter to pull away from Topeka Seaman for their opening round win. Morgan Harwood lead the Lady Panthers with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Regan Unruh and Kaylie Doll each scored 13 in the win.


4A-I BOYS

  • (7) Topeka Hayden 82, (2) Independence 74 –Topeka Hayden used a 22-6 second quarter to build a 12-point halftime lead en route to knocking off second-seeded Independence, 82-74. The two teams combined for 70 points in the fourth quarter as Independence outscored the Wildcats 36-34. Jacob Head led Hayden with 29 points, while Marcus Meier added 17, Brogan Heinen 15, and Brendon Hurley 11. Tate Turner led the Bulldogs with 27 points.  Kyle Rinck added 18 for Independence and Dominique Thornton added 17.
     
  • (6) El Dorado 66, (3) Basehor-Linwood 60 –Travis House scored 23 points and Jared Haury added 19 as El Dorado topped third-seeded Basehor-Linwood, 66-60.  The Wildcats outscored the Bobcats 23-14 in the fourth quarter to win the game.
     
  • (1) McPherson 53, KC Sumner Academy 38 – McPherson set the tone in the first half by building a 30-9 lead and rolling to a 53-38 win in the first round. The Bullpups were led in scoring by Kyler Kinnamon who had 14, while Spencer Wine added 10. Derek Sykes led Sumner with 18 in the game.
     
  • (4) Paola 51, (5) Winfield 48 -- Paola outscored Winfield 14-9 in the fourth quarter to rally for 51-48 win over the Vikings. Six-foot-seven sophomore Mason McDow led Paola with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Justin Criddle added 13. Winfield was led by William Adler’s 28 points.
     

4A-II BOYS

  • (1) Andale 56, (8) Iola 47 – Top-seeded Andale led by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter before holding off Iola 56-47. Hunter Knoblauch led a balanced Andale attack with 12 points, while six other Indians scored at least 6 points. Trenton Latta, Kaden Macha, and Adam Kauth paced Iola (10-12) with 11 points each.
     
  •  (4) Eudora 48, (5) Holton 32 – The Eudora Cardinals closed the game on a 17-2 run to overcome Holton and advance to the semifinals at Hartman Arena. Eudora's Andrew Ballock put in a complete game leading all scorers with 18 points and adding seven rebounds and five assists. Austin Downing chipped in 15 in the victory, and freshman Mitchell Ballock added seven points and eight rebounds. Holton was led by Grant Beecher with 14 points.
  • (2) Scott City 71, (7) Pratt 52 – Scott City continued its bid for a fourth consecutive state title with a 71-52 opening-round win over Pratt.  The Beavers shot the ball well in building a 10-piont halftime lead. Trey O’Neil hit five three pointers as part of his 21-point effort. Sloan Baker added 18 for Scott City.  
     
  • (3) Concordia 77, (6) Girard 63 – Concordia raced out to a 25-10 lead in the first half and held off a furious Girard run to win 77-63.  Girard used a 23-16 third quarter to pull within 50-47, but the Panthers responded with a 27-16 fourth frame to pull away. Grant Holmes led Concordia with 27 points, while Cooper Holmes added 26 and Kaleb Pounds scored 13. Girard was led by Drew Davied’s 19, while Laike Damman and Kross Hamblin added 12 and 11, respectively for the Trojans.
     

3A GIRLS

  • (8) Lyons 57, (1) Riley County 49 - Lyons scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to pull away from top seed Riley County in the opening game of the Girls Class 3A state tournament. Brenna McClure led a balanced Lions attack with 16 points. Alexis Lasater and Rachel Minix each scored 11 in the win.
  • (5) Nemaha Valley 36, (4) Caney Valley 34 - Nemaha Valley rode their defense to a 36-34 win in the 3A quarterfinals. The Raiders used a triangle-and-two in the second half to slow down Caney's Desiree Nelson and Makenzie Vining who finished with 13 and 11 points respectively. Nemaha Valley was led by Rachael Baumgartner with 12 points and Kennedy McKernan with eight.
  • (2) Hesston 58, (7) Douglass 34 - Hesston scored the first 11 points of the game and lead 20-3 after the first quarter to roll over Douglass, 58-34. Cami Richardson and Kelsey Unruh lead the Swathers with 15 points each. Douglass was led by Klair Gibson's 11 points.
  • (6) Council Grove 58, (3) Cimarron 53, OT – Council Grove led for much of the way, but a late charge by Cimarron forced overtime. Morgan Ediger hits a big three-pointer with 58 seconds left to pull the Bluejays even and force the extra period.  In the overtime, the Lady Braves outscored Cimarron 11-6 to earn the first-round win.


2A BOYS

  • (1) St. John 69, (8) Washington County 42 – Dean Wade scored 22 points as top-seeded St. John remained unbeaten by running past Washington County. The two sets of Tigers were tied at 11 after the first quarter before St. John would pull away with a 19-7 second frame. The Tigers outscored Washington County 39-24 in the second half. Zuriel Reyes added 10 points for St. John, while Kyle McGatlin led Washington County with 12.  
     
  • (4) Olpe 59, (5) Hillsboro 42  – Olpe shot lights out in a first round win over Hillsboro. The Eagles shot 59 percent on the game led by Bo Krueger who scored 18.  Toby Smith added 14 for the Eagles and Chance Stout added nine points.  Hillsboro shot just 30 percent for the game.
     
  • (7) St. Mary’s Colgan 60, (2) Valley Falls 57 – Colgan rallied from down 11 points late in the third quarter to knock off Valley Falls 60-57. The Panthers used a quick 5-0 bursst at the end of the third quarter to pull within 47-41 on Austin Commons’ second buzzer-beating three-pointer of the game. Colgan then outscored the Dragons 19-10 in the fourth quarter to take a three point lead. Luke Burns missed a final three-point shot to tie for Valley Falls. Commons led Colgan with 23 points, while Ian Duncan added 19. Burns scored 18 for the Dragons.
     
  • (3) Plainville 46, (6) Meade 41 – Third-seeded Plainville held off Meade 46-41 to reach the state semifinals.  Plainville's Hadley Gillum was dominant in scoring 20 points, pulling down 23 rebounds, and blocking six shots. Meade had reached the 2A state championship game in each of the past two seasons.
     

1A-I GIRLS

  • (1) Hoxie 60, (8) Spearville 39 – The Hoxie Lady Indians extended their winning streak to 71 consecutive games with a 60-39 win over Spearville in the state quarterfinals. Hoxie jumped out to a 17-9 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.  Hoxie was led by Carly Heim who scored 17 points, while Lexi Schamberger added 15. Rachel Slattery led Spearville with 14 points.  
     
  • (5) Osborne 50, (4) Centre-Lost Springs 41 – Osborne advanced to take on top-seeded Hoxie with a 50-41 win over Centre-Lost Springs. The Lady Bulldogs extended their three-point halftime lead to eight points by the end of the third quarter. Jessica Princ led Osborne with 11 points, while Caitlyn Miller added 10. Centre was led by Shelby Makovec’s 13 points.
     
  • (2) Valley Heights 57, Victoria 48 – Valley Heights improved to 23-1 with a 57-48 win over seventh-seeded Victoria. The Mustangs outscored the Lady Knights by a combined 11 points in the second and third quarters to build the advantage. Brandi Jo Roepke led Valley Heights with 25 points, while Sidney Blackburn added 16 and Lesley Frohberg 12. Victoria was led by Kristin Huser who also scored 25 points, while Audra Nowak added 17.
     
  • (3) St. Paul 49, (6) Caldwell 34 – St. Paul used a 21-7 third quarter to blitz Caldwell 49-34 in the first round of the state tournament. Josie Albertini led the Lady Indians with 14 points, while Ashton Wood chipped in 13. St. Paul held Caldwell to just 26 percent from the field. Tyann Isaacs led Caldwell with 11 points.


1A-II GIRLS

  • (1) Baileyville B&B 51, (8) Attica 35 – Baileyville B&B improved to 22-3 on the season with a 16-point win over Attica. The Lady Falcons outscored Attica 30-20 in the second half to pull away. Katie Huerter and Cassidy Hulsing each scored 12 points to lead the Falcons, while Lauren Sudbeck added 11. Attica (15-8) was led by Brooke Ricke who poured in a game-high 17. 
     
  • (5) Dighton 47, (4) Argonia 35 – Argonia took a 30-29 lead over Dighton into the fourth quarter, but the Lady Hornets blitz the Lady Raiders with an 18-5 final quarter to claim the win. Kiara Budd led a balanced Dighton attack with 11 points, while Liz Heath, Shambrey Budd, and Jordan Speer each added 8. Haylea Hessman scored 15 points to lead Argonia which finished 19-5 on the season.
     
  • (2) Bucklin 56, Beloit St. John’s-Tipton  49, OT – It took extra basketball, but the Bucklin Red Aces held off Beloit St. John’s-Tipton in overtime, 56-49. Bucklin raced out to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter before the Lady Blujays outscored Bucklin 39-26 in the final three quarters.  Brenna Eilert led the Blujays with 24 points, while Morgan Hood paced Bucklin with 11. St. John’s-Tipton struggled at the free throw line connecting on just 7 of 16 attempts.
     
  • (3) Golden Plains 57, (6) Wilson 37 -- Third-seeded Golden Plains  outscored Wilson in every quarter on their way to a 20-point win. The Lady Bulldogs were led in scoring by Jordan Christensen’s 16 and Hailee Spresser’s 15. Shana Steinike paced the Dragons with 14 points.
