Boys Basketball - December 8th Rankings
In Class 6A, four of the top five remain the same. Washburn Rural moves up from the No. 10 spot into the top five at No.4. There are no newcomers in this week’s top 10 in the 6A classification.
The top five has been shaken up a bit in Class 5A. Hays and Wichita Heights, previously sixth and 10th in the rankings, move up to the No. 4 and No. 5 spots for Class 5A. There are two teams that move out of the rankings; Mill Valley, who was previously No. 5, and last week’s No. 8 team Shawnee Heights. New to this week’s rankings in 5A are Salina South (No. 8) and Bishop Carroll (No.10).
There are no big changes to the KBCA Class 4A-I rankings this week. The top six stays exactly the same with Piper still in the top spot. Dropping out this week was Topeka Hayden, who was previously at the No. 7 spot. New to this week’s rankings are the Cowboys of Abilene in at No. 10.
The Top five of 4A-II saw changes after the first week of the season. Scott City and Andale hold on to the top two spots, but Concordia and Eudora drop out of top five with first week losses. Holton and Clearwater move into this week’s top five at No. 4 and No. 5 respectively.
Sacred Heart cracks into the top five in Class 3A, with Humboldt (No. 4 last week) dropping from the rankings after last week's loss to Eureka. Haven is the only new team to crack this week’s rankings at No. 10. Wichita Collegiate, Hesston, and Silver Lake all remained in the top three this week in 3A.
In Class 2A, the top ten is identical to last week's preseason rankings. St. John, St. Mary’s Colgan and Meade all sit atop the classification after impressive opening night wins. St. John blew away Pratt Skyline 93-35, Colgan defeated 4A-I and league rival Frontenac, and Meade scored a 12-point win over Elkhart to open the season.
No new teams are ranked in this week’s 1A-1 rankings, however there is a little bit of movement. Marais des Cygnes Valley is the new No. 1 after No. 2 Valley Heights knocked off last week's top team Centralia, 60-40 to open the season. The Panthers move down to No. 3. Victoria also cracked the top five this week moving up from the No. 7 spot.
Finally, Class 1A-II saw no movement this week in the KBCA rankings. Defending state champion Axtell still sits at the No. 1 spot, with Sharon Springs-Wallace County and Beloit St. Johns-Tipton at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Baileyville B&B and Fowler round out your top five for the second consecutive week.
