In the Kpreps Game of the Week as chosen by the fans, Rossville topped Silver Lake 27-21 to win the “War on 24” and step into the driver’s seat for the Mid-East League title.
It marks the first win by the Bulldogs over the Eagles since 2003.
Rossville built a 13-7 lead just before halftime on a Tucker Horak touchdown run. The Bulldogs expanded their lead to 21-7 in the third quarter as Nick Reesor broke free for his second touchdown of the game.
Silver Lake came back and eventually tied the game on a Dailin Kruger short touchdown run.
The Eagles had the ball and the momentum before Thatcher Horak’s interceptions set up Rossville for the winning score.
Jack Steckel scored from five yards out on a fourth down to give Rossville the 27-21 lead.
Silver Lake drove near the Rossville 10-yard line late in the game, but Kruger was sacked on fourth down. Kruger was questionable for this game with a knee injury, but played most of the game.

In front of a statewide television audience on Cox Kansas 22, Pittsburg used a stifling defense and stellar performance from its star player to beat Coffeyville 42-14.
Purple Dragon back Alex Barnes was unstoppable after an early miscue. After a Coffeyville punt, Barnes fumbled on his initial carry. After that, he carried his team to victory. The junior running back rushed 32 times for 320 yards and five touchdowns on the night.
Pittsburg won the war in the trenches on both sides of the ball. The Dragon defense constantly pressured Golden Tornado quarterback Nathan Finley and kept him from getting the ball to play-making receivers James Newton and Darron Deffebaugh.
Newton was shadowed all night by Pittsburg freshman Elijah Harris who sealed the game with a late interception in the end zone.

Top-ranked Bishop Carroll dominated No. 5 Kapaun Mt. Carmel 42-10 to win a second consecutive Greater Wichita Athletic League title.
The Golden Eagles turned three first-half Kapaun turnovers into touchdowns in building a 21-3 lead.
Junior quarterback Colton Howell got the start for Bishop Carroll and produced 99 rushing yards and three touchdowns to go along with a pair of touchdown passes to Scott Linnebur.
Tory Smith rushed for a game-high 168 yards on 14 carries including an 80-yard touchdown burst that all but put a cap on the Eagles’ big night.

Second-ranked Lawrence Free State denied No. 3 Shawnee Mission East a chance for the outright Sunflower League championship with a 17-10 overtime win over the Lancers.
Stan Skwarlo scored from 10-yards out on the first play of overtime to give the Firebirds the winning points.
SM East threw consecutive incomplete passes on third and fourth down to end their overtime possession and the game.
Free State led 10-0 at halftime before the Lancers offense started clicking in the second half. Still, SM East was plagued by four turnovers in the game.
Lancer kicker Colin Burns tied the game at 10 with a 28-yard field goal with under a minute remaining in the fourth quarter.

In Class 4A, top-ranked Holton doubled-up Jefferson West 40-20 in a battle of unbeaten teams in the Big Seven League.
Quarterback Ethan Holaday rushed for nearly 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Wildcats built a 23-0 lead helped by early Tiger turnovers.
The Wildcats get another unbeaten next week when they host Wamego to open district play.

Conway Springs won its annual Central Plains League showdown with Garden Plain 27-8 behind a strong defensive performance.
The Cardinals held the Owls to exactly 100 yards of total offense on the night including 40 rushing yards on 27 attempts.
Meanwhile, Travis Wood led a Cardinal ground attack with 104 yards and a touchdown. Luke Fischer added two touchdown runs as Conway Springs improved to 6-0.
Garden Plain dropped its third straight game and fell to 3-3 on the season.

In a unique game, Waverly defeated Fredonia 18-0.
That may not sound like anything out of the ordinary, but consider Waverly is an eight-man, Division II team and Fredonia is in Class 3A. Both teams were saddled with an open date this week and decided to schedule each other in an 11-man contest at Fredonia.
The Bulldogs built a 16-0 lead at halftime and held on for the shutout.

Maur Hill-Mount Academy picked up its first win of the season with a dramatic 24-22 win over Horton.
Brian Scott sealed the win with an interception in the end zone with just over 1:30 remaining in the game. It was a key play for the Junior Ravens who had already squandered a late lead in a 30-26 loss to Oskaloosa earlier this season.
Kicker Rafael Riquelme booted a school-record 54-yard field goal as the first half expired giving MH-MA a 17-6 lead. Austin Greenes rushed for a pair of touchdowns for Maur Hill in the game.

The Gorillas used built a 58-36 lead on the Eagles at halftime and led 72-52 at the end of the third quarter.
