The Andale Indians turned in a dominating performance on Saturday in routing Frontenac, 53-0, to capture the schools’ third consecutive state football championship.
The Indians took control early as Jonah Meyer’s 46-yard touchdown run just over three minutes into the game proved to be the only score they would need.
Sophomore Gage Prosser added the first of this three rushing touchdowns late in the first quarter and junior quarterback Wyatt Spexarth’s 1-yard sneak gave Andale an 18-0 lead at the intermission.
Prosser then provided the separation with a pair of touchdown runs both longer than 50 yards within a two-minute span of the third quarter. Andale’s lead grew to 32-0.
Touchdowns by Spexarth and junior Riley Marx capped a 27-point third quarter for the Indians.
Andale rushed for 504 yards in the game on 52 attempts. Prosser led the way with 164 yards on ten carries, while junior Cody Parthemer added 154 yards on 19 attempts.
The Andale defense held Frontenac to 48 yards of total offense on 45 plays. The Raiders played without three starters who were lost due to injury in the semifinal victory over Holton.
Andale has now won 38 consecutive games and will be the odds-on favorite again in Class 3A next season. All of Andale’s 504 rushing yards in Saturday’s contest were gained by underclassmen.
Marlo Sullivan kicked three PATs for the Indians in the game. She is believed to be the first female to score in a KSHSAA State Championship football game.
