Kpreps.com takes you Around the Classes as we look at a handful of games in each classification from teams outside our top five rankings.

Class 6A

Jerma’l Campbell rushed for 161 yards on 19 carries and Junction City defeated Washburn Rural 42-35. Junction City received two touchdowns from its defense as Raye Wilson returned an interception for a 92-yard touchdown, and Shelby Moffith recovered a fumble in the end zone. Washburn Rural’s Blake Peterson passed for 214 yards.

Hutchinson rushed for nearly 400 yards and rolled to a 35-0 victory over Dodge City. Jacob Hardenburger rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown in the win. Salthawks quarterback Turner Wintz ran for two touchdowns and passed for another.

Maize quarterback Connor Lungwitz passed for 284 yards and five touchdowns in a 40-24 victory against Garden City. The Maize defense and special teams also posted solid performances. The Eagles limited a potent Garden City offense to 10 points in the first half and picked off two passes. Kendal Stewart returned a kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown and also caught two of Lungwitz’s TD passes. Garden City’s Greyson Tempel passed for 255 yards.

Leavenworth held off Lawrence 16-8. Pioneers running backs Jason Randall and Isaiah Ross rushed for 90 and 67 yards, respectively. Randall and Ross each ran for a touchdown.

Class 5A

Newton quarterback Braedon Morrison ran for 130 yards and five touchdowns on 12 carries as the Railers defeated Emporia 49-42. Newton’s Bradley Million added 110 rushing yards on five carries. Emporia quarterback Tanner Taylor ran for about 200 yards with three touchdowns.

Liberal out-gunned Goddard 64-46. Liberal quarterback Britton Abbott turned in a remarkable performance, completing 20 of 32 passes for 345 yards and six touchdowns. He also ran for 154 yards on 17 attempts. Goddard quarterback Tucker Vang completed 8 of 11 passes for 185 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 135 yards and a touchdown.

Andover Central jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead and defeated Arkansas City 49-14. Jaguars running back Lucas Milner ran for 146 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. Quarterback Blake Meier passed for 182 yards and two touchdowns. Jordan Birch ran for 91 yards and a touchdown.

Ethan Harp scored on a 1-yard TD run and Matthew Wells made the extra point with 5 minutes left to give Kapaun Mt. Carmel a 14-13 win over Wichita West. Alexander Norris ran for 96 yards on 17 carries, while Harp ran for 79 yards on 14 carries.

Class 4A

Hesston ran for 315 yards and six touchdowns during a 62-20 win over Towanda-Circle. Ryan Schadler led the Swathers attack with 152 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries. Hesston quarterback Wyatt McKinney passed for 114 yards and two touchdowns.

Cole Holloway ran for 176 yards and a touchdown, and Tonganoxie defeated Perry-Lecompton 37-8. Jared Sommers, Shane Levy and Tyler Ford also had TD runs for Tonganoxie. Austin Kurtz led Perry-Lecompton with 159 yards rushing on 28 carries.

McPherson had two 100-yard rushers in a 42-13 win over Smoky Valley. Senior T.J. Stites ran for 198 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries. Junior quarterback Kyler Kinnamon rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown on 16 attempts.

Ulysses earned its second consecutive shutout with a 43-0 win over Larned. Ulysses sophomore running back rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. The Tigers ran for 323 yards and five touchdowns as a team.

Class 3A

Galena took advantage of a strong rushing attack on a cold and rainy night during a 30-14 win over St. Mary’s Colgan. Logan Johnson ran for 129 yards and a touchdown, while Gabe Helton ran for 128 yards and three touchdowns. Colgan’s Drew Dawson returned a kick for a TD and ran for another touchdown.

Lakin ran for 426 yards and six touchdowns during a 41-0 win against Cimarron. Senior Gage McAtee led the way with 337 yards and three touchdown on 29 carries. Wyatt Burnett added 73 yards and a touchdown.

Sedgwick took a 48-0 halftime lead and beat Wichita Independent 55-14. Quarterback Brylie Ware completed 11 of 13 passes for 223 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for another. Dalton Brandt ran for 174 yards and four touchdowns, while catching two balls for 80 yards.

Sacred Heart defeated Southeast of Saline 21-8. However, Sacred Heart didn’t score its 21 points in a typical way. The Knights scored rushing touchdowns from Nick Wuthnow and Trevor Webb, while kicker Tymony Bonilla made two field goals and one extra point, and the defense added a safety.

Class 2-1A

Onaga ran for 370 yards and six touchdowns during a 46-22 win over Chase County. Michael Bliss ran for 156 yards and four touchdowns, while quarterback Wyatt Cordell had 132 yards and one touchdown. Troy Higgs pass for more than 200 yards for Chase County. Brendan Watts caught five of the passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.

Alex Gomez ran for 171 yards and four touchdowns, and Elkhart defeated Stanton County 64-32. Austin Bond added 110 yards and a touchdown. The Trojans also had two 100-yard rushers with Zach Johnson (151) and Jeremy Amerin (139). Jacob Cron rushed for four touchdowns.

Sean Lee completed 5 of 8 passes for 105 yards and three touchdowns as Ellis defeated St. Francis 26-0. Brendon Brenner caught two of the TD passes, while Eli Lohrmeyer hauled in the other. Landon Younger ran for 93 yards.

Wabaunsee edged Northern Heights 21-18. Ethan Miller led the Chargers rushing attack with 163 yards and two touchdowns. Northern Heights missed all three conversion attempts in the loss.

8-Man Division I

South Central scored 52 points in the first quarter en route to a 66-16 win over Macksville. Timberwolves quarterback Stetsen Underwood ran for 206 yards and four touchdowns, while passing for 81 yards and three touchdowns. Macksville’s Tanner Tranbarger passed for 111 yards and a touchdown.

Wakefield sophomore Zack Melius gained more than 300 yards of total offense and six touchdowns in a 76-50 win over Pike Valley. Melius had 206 yards and four touchdowns on the ground and caught three balls for 114 yards and two touchdowns.

Solomon crushed Little River 50-0. Mason Demars, Mark Aylward and Colton Shirack each ran for two touchdowns each. Laramie Peters led Little River with 47 yards on nine carries.

Oxford junior Daelyn Haskins ran for 148 yards and four touchdowns as the Wildcats defeated Central Burden 58-8. Dexter Norris and Colter Silhan ran for two touchdowns each.

8-Man Division II

Stafford ran for 400 yards and seven touchdowns during a 54-6 win over Norwich. Ethan Johnson ran for 202 yards and three touchdowns, while Tristin Paulsen added 130 yards and three touchdowns.

Northern Valley had three players run for more than 100 yards as the Huskies defeated Stockton 72-44. Hunter Chandler rushed for 247 yards and four touchdowns. Jordan Baird had 186 yards and two touchdowns, while Phillip Bryant ran for 157 yards and four touchdowns.

Moscow ran past Ashland with a 54-6 victory. Alexis Manriquez ran for 204 yards and three touchdowns, while Brock Brazeal ran for 154 yards and three touchdowns. Ashland quarterback passed for 202 yards and a touchdown.

Philip Moses passed for 136 yards and three touchdowns as Chetopa defeat Colony-Crest 42-14. Trenton Scott ran for 149 yards and two touchdowns.
