In our Picks to Click, we feature several players or units from across the state that we feel will have breakout performances on Friday night.

This season, we’ve assembled a team of media members across the state to each select one player (or unit) each week.  We will track the cumulative statistics of our selections throughout the season similar to fantasy scoring.

Picks to Click contributors for the 2026 season include: Dion Clisso (PrepsKC.com); Matt Gilmore (Kpreps.com); Brent Maycock (KSHSAA Covered); and Conor Nicholl (Kpreps.com).

Check back next Thursday to see our picks for Week 6, and how the players performed that we picked the week prior. See the bottom of this article for details.

Wyatt Detweiler, QB, Axtell (Nicholl)

Detweiler has been a key piece in Axtell’s success over the past four seasons. The Eagles have posted a 40-2 record with two state championships during his time in high school. This season, Axtell is 4-0 and Detweiler again a big reason why. He has completed 36 of 50 pass attempts for 725 yards and 13 touchdowns without throwing an interception. He has also added 26 carries for 257 yards and 8 touchdowns on the ground. Axtell begins a difficult stretch of the season when then host unbeaten Troy (4-0) this week. After this week, the Eagles face Linn (1-2), Hanover (4-0), and Frankfort (3-1).

Beau Hall, RB, Flinthills (Maycock)

Coming off a monster junior season in which he ran for 1,807 yards and 28 touchdowns, Hall hasn't slowed down a bit his senior season. He's already rushed for 817 yards and 14 TDs this season and has rushed for 4 TDs in three of the Mustangs' four games. He's also caught 2 TD passes and in Flinthills' Week 3 win over Central-Burden, Hall shifted to quarterback with starter Tripp Carney out and threw for 108 yards and 2 TDs while rushing for 298 yards and 4 scores. With Marmaton Valley boasting an offense averaging better thsn 50 points per game, Friday's game could be a shootout, and Hall could be primed for a huge night.

Baron Marshall, WR, Blue Valley Northwest (Clisso)

Marshall (6-3, 190) is one of the top 2028 recruits in the state of Kansas. Marshall has 16 Division I offers and is putting up big numbers this season. Through the Huskies’ first four games, Marshall has 28 receptions for 527 yards and six touchdowns. In last week’s 56-35 win over Blue Valley West, Marshall hauled in nine catches for a season-high 191 yards and three scores. He’ll need another big night on Friday as the fifth-ranked Huskies will take on Blue Valley North.

Beau Porter, QB, Leoti-Wichita Co.  (Gilmore)

Leoti-Wichita County opened the 2025 season with a 56-32 loss to Haxtun, Colorado. The Indians played without standout quarterback Cashton Young but instead turned to sophomore Beau Porter. Despite the loss to the defending Colorado state champions, Porter played well in passing for 231 yards and four touchdowns. Last season, he went on to rush for nearly 500 yards and seven touchdowns, while catching 33 passes for 504 yards and seven scores. Fast forward to this season and Porter (5-11, 190) is the option in the Indian offense. Through four weeks, Porter has passed for 413 yards and seven touchdowns and added 783 yards rushing with 12 scores. His No. 2 ranked Indians will travel to Rolla to take on Elkhart in a battle of undefeated teams in Eight-Man, Division I, District 8.
