1-Olathe North (7-1) – First-round bye
8-Olathe Northwest 42, 9-Shawnee Mission West 0 – The Ravens evened their record at 3-3 with a 42-0 blanking of Shawnee Mission West on Thursday night. Olathe Northwest scored 21 points in the first quarter to take control. The Ravens defeated the Vikings 48-6 earlier this season.
4-Blue Valley Northwest 42, 13-Shawnee Mission East 14 – The Huskies won their first playoff game since 2009 with a 42-14 win over Shawnee Mission East. Blue Valley Northwest led 21-0 at halftime and scored three more times in the third quarter to pull away. Grant Stubblefield started the scoring with this fifth rushing touchdown of the season. Northwest quarterback Mikey Pauley added a pair of touchdown passes to push his season total to 15.
5-Blue Valley 38, 12-Blue Valley West 7 – Blue Valley built a 31-0 halftime lead in cruising past the Jaguars for the second time this season. Michael Soloman rushed for a team-high 146 yards and two touchdowns – 1 yard more than quarterback Greyson Holbert who contributed 145 rushing yards and two scores. Blue Valley advances to take on Blue Valley Northwest in a rematch of the two team’s season-opener back in Week 3. Northwest won that earlier meeting, 24-7.
2-Shawnee Mission Northwest (5-1) – First-round bye
7-Olathe West 21, 10-Olathe South 11 – Anthony Favrow rushed for all three touchdowns as the Owls topped Olathe South, 21-11. Favrow entered Thursday’s game with 865 yards and eight touchdowns, but added three more to push his season total to 11 scores. Olathe West led 21-3 until the Falcons scored in the final 2:30 to pull within 10 points.
3-Olathe East 41, 14-Shawnee Mission South 6 – Olathe East moved to the next round with a 41-6 win over Shawnee Mission South. Ma’rrell Fountain rushed for five touchdowns in the victory. The Hawks also went to the air with Darius Bibbs catching four passes for 105 yards including a 65-yard touchdown.
6-Blue Valley North 47, 11-Shawnee Mission North 13 – Henry Martin threw six touchdown passes as Blue Valley North defeated Shawnee Mission North, 47-13. Martin threw two touchdown passes each to Drew Freberg and Mehki Miller. Martin also threw touchdowns to Luke Hendrickson and Ian Loftus. The Mustangs led 47-0 at the end of three quarters.
6A – WEST
1-Lawrence 66, 16-Wichita North 6 – Lawrence cruised to a 66-6 victory over Wichita North. The Chesty Lions held North to just 50 yards of total offense on the night. Devin Neal carried only three times for 47 yards and a touchdown. Graham Hough added 40 yards on the ground and two scores on four attempts. Lawrence also added two safeties and a kickoff return for a touchdown by Kallun Chitama.
9-Dodge City 39, 8-Topeka High 0 – Dodge City made the long trek to Topeka and came away with a 39-0 shutout over the Trojans. Dodge City scored twice in the first half to take a 14-0 lead into halftime. Matt Friess Jr. caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Alden Knedler and Chance Kerr scored the first of his four rushing touchdowns. Friess intercepted three passes on the night and added a second touchdown reception in the second half. Kerr rushed for a game-high 81 yards to go along with his four scores.
4-Derby 62, 13-Wichita Southeast 0 – Derby made quick work of Wichita Southeast by scoring 48 points in the first half. Dylan Edwards rushed for 159 yards and three scores and Lem Wash threw a pair of touchdown passes to Reid Liston. Derek Hubbard also added a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Panthers.
5-Gardner-Edgerton 37, 12-Wichita South 13 – Gardner-Edgerton advanced to the second round with a 37-13 win over Wichita South. Five different Trailblazers scored touchdowns on the night. Davonte Pritchard, Connor Elder, Carter Dewey, and Garrett Bergmann each rushed for touchdowns, while freshman quarterback Asher Weiner threw a touchdown pass to Ethan Reynolds.
2-Junction City 42, 15-Lawrence Free State 21 – Junction City received a strong challenge from Lawrence Free State for a half, but the Blue Jays eventually pulled away for a 21-point win. Andrew Khoury hit Marcello Bussey for three touchdown passes to help provide the separation from the Firebirds on the scoreboard. D.J. Giddons also added a pair of rushing touchdowns.
10-Washburn Rural 21, 7-Wichita West 6 – Washburn Rural pulled an upset by seed over the 7-seeded Wichita West Pioneers. Cooper Calgren passed for 156 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Josh Williams caught two of Calgren’s touchdown passes with Robby Bolin grabbing the other.
3-Wichita East 46, 14-Haysville-Campus 6 – Wichita East rolled to a 40-point playoff win – the schools’ first since the state title team in 1983. The Blue Aces led 20-6 at halftime and outscored the Colts 26-0 in the second half, including 20-0 in the fourth quarter. Wichita East will host Manhattan in the second round of the 6A playoffs.
6-Manhattan 21, 11-Garden City 20 – Manhattan held off Garden City 21-20 for their second victory over the Buffaloes this season. Manhattan led 21-14 late in the fourth quarter when Garden City scored on a double reverse by Cooper Ramsey. The ensuing Garden City PAT was blocked by Manhattan quarterback Dane Aschenbrenner who was key in all three phases of the game for the Indians. Aschenbrenner’s short touchdown run earlier in the fourth quarter gave the Indians the lead. He finished with 91 rushing yards and passed for 31 more yards. Vinny Smith added 127 yards and two scores for the Indians. Manhattan won the season-opener over Garden City, 21-7.

5A – East
1-Topeka Seaman (7-1) – First-round bye
9-Blue Valley Southwest 36, 8-Emporia 14 – Blue Valley Southwest scored 21 points in the second quarter to take control and held off Emporia, 36-14. Quarterback Tanner Currey passed for 239 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Timberwolves. All three of Curry’s touchdown passes went to Zach Atkins who caught six passes for 102 yards. The Southwest defense held Emporia to 130 yards of total offense.
4-St. Thomas Aquinas (4-3) – First-round bye
5-Pittsburg (4-4) – First-round bye
2-De Soto (7-1) – First-round bye
7-Leavenworth 62, 10-Topeka West 15 – Leavenworth advanced to the second round with a 62-15 win over Topeka West. The Pioneers led 27-3 at halftime and scored four quick touchdowns in the third quarter aided by several Charger miscues on special teams. Eddie McLaughlin rushed for a pair of first-half touchdowns and Keenan Brown scored on the ground and on a touchdown catch from McLaughlin.
3-Mill Valley (5-2) – First-round bye
6-Spring Hill 34, 11-Shawnee Heights 6 – Spring Hill topped Shawnee Heights, 34-6, to win a playoff game for the second consecutive season. Bronco running back Draven Pipkin rushed for 138 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. The Broncos will advance to take on defending champion Mill Valley.
5A – West
1-Wichita Northwest 68, 16-Salina Central 12 – Wichita Northwest rushed for more than 530 yards in a 68-12 win over Salina Central. Julius Bolden rushed for 148 yards and three touchdowns and Geremiah Moore added 144 yards and two more scores. Moore also caught a touchdown pass.
8-Wichita Heights 28, 9-Andover 22 – Wichita Heights rallied from a 14-0 halftime deficit to top Andover, 28-22. The Falcons scored three straight touchdowns in the second half to take a 21-14 lead. Andover regained the lead in the fourth quarter on a short touchdown run by Ashton Ngo. But the Falcons immediately answered as John Randle returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for what would be the game-winning score.
4-Kapaun Mt. Carmel 74, 13-Salina South 0 – Kapaun converted a couple of early Salina South turnovers into touchdowns and kept rolling to a blowout win. Cale Curtis rushed for two scores and returned a fumble for a touchdown all in the first quarter. Curtis later added another rushing score. The Crusaders added a pair of safeties, another fumble return touchdown, and a punt return for a score in the second half.
5-Goddard 28, 12-Goddard-Eisenhower 26 – Goddard held off rival Eisenhower 28-26 thanks to a fourth-quarter two-point conversion stop. The Lions led 14-7 at halftime and 28-14 after three quarters. Eisenhower scored on a touchdown pass from Nick Hogan to J.T. Bunton to pull within 28-20. Hogan later hit Owen Rush on a touchdown pass with 5:30 left to pull within 28-26, but Goddard stopped the two-point attempt and eventually held on for the win. Goddard’s Kyler Semrad tossed a touchdown pass to Dylan Reese and rushed for two scores. Reese also rushed for a touchdown.
2-Hutchinson 46, 15-Newton 41 – Alec McCuan rushed for 240 yards and three touchdowns as Hutchinson held off Newton, 46-41. Hutchinson led 21-17 at halftime and the teams traded scores in the second half with Newton holding leads of 29-28 and 35-34. The Salthawks then took control as McCaun scored two twice to give Hutch a 46-35 lead. The Salthawks defeated Newton 54-42 earlier this season. The Railers finished their season at 2-7, but were very competitive against a difficult schedule. The Railers’ seven losses came against opponents that are a combined 48-11 and all are still alive in the state playoffs.
7-Bishop Carroll 1, 10-Valley Center 0 – Bishop Carroll has advanced via forfeit given the COVID situation at Valley Center.
3-Maize 55, 14-Liberal 0 – Maize rolled to a 55-0 shutout of Liberal to advance to take on rival Maize South in the second round. The Eagles built a 49-0 lead at halftime thanks to a pair of touchdown runs by Josh Sanders. Sanders also caught a first-half touchdown pass from Avery Johnson who threw two touchdown passes and rushed for a score.
11-Maize South 33, 6-Hays 12 – Maize South won 33-12 on Thursday night at Lewis Field Stadium in Hays. The Mavericks led by 30 mid-way through the third quarter, and did not allow Hays to cross midfield until the second half. Maize South beat the Indians, 21-20, two weeks ago. Maize South improved to 5-3, and Hays finished 5-3 after a 5-0 start and Western Athletic Conference title.
Class 4A
4A East
1-Paola 1, 16-Ottawa 0 – Paola has advanced via forfeit given the COVID situation at Ottawa.
9-St. James Academy 41, 8-Louisburg 19 – St. James Academy won on the road at Louisburg, 41-19. Thunder quarterback Dakota Burritt completed 19 of 27 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns. Burritt connected with Jake Boone four times for 96 yards and a score and Hayes Manning four times for 79 yards. Tyler Claiborn caught five for 50 yards and two touchdowns. La’James White rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns for St. James Academy.
4-Basehor-Linwood 35, 13-Atchison 16 – The Bobcats scored in each quarter and put up more than 500 yards of total offense in a 35-16 win over Atchison. Isaac Stanton passed for 315 yards and three touchdowns – two to Jordan Brown who had 94 yards receiving. Brant Wilson caught five passes for 101 yards and a score. Zach Sisemore rushed for 195 yards and two scores on 35 attempts. Xavier Cushinberry led the Redmen with 195 yards and a score on 26 attempts.
12-Eudora 16, 5-KC Piper 15 – Eudora scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns and converted both two-point conversions to erase a 15-0 deficit and upset KC Piper, 16-15. The Cardinals got a huge interception and return by Kale Hammerschmidt that set up a Zeke Reazin touchdown run to pull within 15-8 early in the fourth quarter. Brayden Beerbower’s 1-yard touchdown run with :50 seconds remaining pulled the Cardinals within 15-14 and he then provided the winning two-point conversion. Beerbower rushed for 169 yards on 35 attempts.
2-Fort Scott 48, 15-Bonner Springs 22 – Fort Scott scored twice in the fourth quarter to pull away from Bonner Springs, 48-22. The Tigers led 16-8 at halftime and 32-22 after three quarters before Malachi Vann rushed for two fourth-quarter touchdowns. Vann rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns and also tossed a 40-yard touchdown pass to Donald Harper. Jamar Franks also topped the 100-yard mark with 113 yards as Fort Scott rushed for 446 yards in the game.
10-Bishop Miege 64, 7-Chanute 17 – Miege scored all 64 points in the first half of a 47-point rout. Timothy Dorsey completed 9 of 10 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns. His incompletion was intercepted by the Blue Comets and returned for a touchdown. Jaylen Burch rushed for 160 yards and three scores for the Stags.
3-Tonganoxie 48, 14-Labette County 28 – Tonganoxie exploded for 35 points in the first quarter and cruised past Labette County, 48-28. Tyler Bowden rushed for 202 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries. Blake Poje passed for 121 yards and three scores – two to Dallas Bond. Labette County freshman quarterback Kendall Holtzman completed 4 of 5 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns.
6-Lansing 48, 11-Coffeyville 6 – Lansing built a 27-0 halftime lead and cruised past Coffeyville-Field Kindley, 48-6. The Lions improved to 5-3 on the year and snapped a 13-game losing streak in the opening round of the playoffs. Lansing’s last playoff win came 31-28 over Perry-Lecompton in the first round of the 2005 4A playoffs.
4A East
1-McPherson 78, 16-Abilene 14 – McPherson scored 36 points in the first quarter in rolling to a 78-14 win over Abilene. The Bullpup lead grew to 70-0 at halftime. Sky Schriner rushed for three touchdowns and Jaytin Gumm added two more for McPherson. Freshman Jayce Schriner also added three scores.
8-Augusta 50, 9-Ulysses 8 – Augusta rolled to a 50-8 win over Ulysses to earn a rematch with the top-seeded McPherson Bullpups. The Orioles led 6-0 after one quarter and 28-8 at halftime. Jett Hand had a hand in all four Augusta touchdowns in the first half – rushing for three and passing for the other. The Orioles added two more scores in the third quarter and one in the fourth. Augusta fell to McPherson, 32-14, in the last week of the regular season.
4-Rose Hill 30, 13-Mulvane 13 – Rose Hill won its sixth consecutive game with a 30-13 decision over Mulvane. It was the Rockets second victory over the Wildcats this season with the other coming 46-6 back on October 9th. Rose Hill led 22-0 at halftime. The Rockets have already secured their first winning season since the 2011 state championship team. Rose Hill had won eight total games in the five years prior to this season.
5-Buhler 47, 12-Towanda-Circle 0 – Buhler’s Sam Elliott rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns to help lead his team to a dominating 47-0 win over Circle. The Crusader defense was also impressive in not allowing a single first down by the T-Birds in the game. The Buhler defense also got on the board as Cameron Campbell returned an interception or a touchdown in the second half.
2-Andover Central 49, 15-Great Bend 7 – Andover Central cruised into the second round with a 49-7 win over Great Bend. Jacob Rees rushed for a pair of early touchdowns as the Jaguars built a 28-0 lead at halftime. Chase White also threw a touchdown pass to Kyle Kohman and Ashton Barkdull added a long touchdown run. Jack Bell, Shane Barkdull, and Jackson Rees all scored in the second half for the Jaguars.
10-Arkansas City 27, 7-Wellington 6 – Gabe Welch rushed for three touchdowns and passed for another as Ark City won at Wellington, 27-6. The Bulldog quarterback passed for 167 yards including a 33-yard scoring connection with Haden O’Toole. Welch also rushed for 65 yards on 22 attempts. This is Ark City’s fifth playoff win in the last three seasons.
3-El Dorado 46, 14-Winfield 14 – El Dorado outscored Winfield 24-0 in the second half to pull away for a 46-14 win. It was the first playoff win in school history and marked the Wildcats second victory over Winfield in as many weeks. El Dorado defeated Winfield in last week’s regular-season meeting, 32-14. El Dorado rushed for 451 yards in the game led by Zach Wittenberg’s 186 yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries. Gannon White added 85 yards and two scores and Jalen Rice contributed 65 yards and a score. El Dorado led 22-14 at halftime and 30-14 after three quarters.
6-Wamego 49, 11-Independence 21 – Wamego took control early with three touchdowns in the first quarter and then cruised to a 49-21 win over Independence. The Red Raiders led 35-7 at halftime and added a pair of scores in the third quarter to advance. Wamego will travel to El Dorado to take on the third-seeded Wildcats next week.
Class 3A
3A EAST
Girard 29, Columbus 18 – Girard built an early lead and upset undefeated Columbus 29-18. Connor Olivera started the scoring for the Trojans with a 17-yard run. After Columbus tied the game on a long pass from Jaxon Haraughty to Landin Midgett, Girard’s Luke Niggemann broke a long touchdown from midfield to put the Trojans back up 13-6. Gabe Martin closed the gap to 13-12 with a touchdown, but Girard answered before halftime as Niggemann hit Mason Huebner on a touchdown pass in the final 20 seconds. Niggemann then hit Logan Thomas on a 30-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to lead 26-12. Garrett Humble would extend the Trojan lead to 29-12 with a 27-yard field goal.
Prairie View 44, Caney Valley 16 – Prairie View scored on the opening drive and cruised to a 44-16 home win over Caney Valley. The Buffaloes extended their lead to 37-8 by halftime as Damien Klein and Otis Jacobs each rushed for a couple of first-half touchdowns.
Topeka Hayden 42, Sabetha 6 – Hayden advanced to the second round with a 42-6 win over Sabetha. Desmond Purnell rushed for 90 yards and a score and caught two touchdown passes totaling 87 yards. Hayden will now get the huge rematch with Perry-Lecompton in the second round. The Wildcats edged the Kaws 10-0 in district play a couple of weeks ago.
Perry-Lecompton 35, Rock Creek 22 – Perry-Lecompton scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 29-14 halftime lead. The Kaws would eventually hold off Rock Creek to advance 35-22. Reichen Rush ran for 193 yards and two touchdowns and Thad Metcalfe added 97 yards and two more scores on the ground for Perry-Lecompton. Metcalfe also passed for 124 yards including a touchdown to Dawson Williams. Rock Creek advanced deep inside Perry-Lecompton territory a couple of times and came up empty due to a fumble and turnover on downs. Perry-Lecompton will now travel to Topeka Hayden for a second-round showdown. Hayden defeated the Kaws 10-0 a couple of weeks ago.
Burlington 56, Parsons 22 – Burlington scored 30 points in the first quarter in taking control against Parsons. The Wildcats led 36-7 at halftime and eventually added 20 points in the second half for a 56-22 win. Brayden Sloyer rushed for 299 yards and three touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass to Gavin Price. Price also added a rushing score as did Cody Long and Hunter Reiling. The Wildcats rushed for 468 yards on the night.
Frontenac 25, Galena 7 – Frontenac scored twice in the second half to win at Abbey Field in Galena, 25-7. The Raiders led 12-7 at halftime and added touchdown runs by Collin McCartney and Mario Menghini in the second half to pull away. McCartney rushed for 160 yards and two scores and passed for 154 yards and a touchdown (to Menghini) for the Raiders. Frontenac will now travel to Burlington for a rematch of the district game won by the Raiders, 28-12. Frontenac has handed Burlington its only loss thus far this season.
Holton 62, Santa Fe Trail 25 – Holton scored all 62 points in the first half of their 62-25 win over Santa Fe Trail. Canon Karn rushed eight times for 172 yards and five touchdowns in the Wildcat victory. Sophomore Jace Boswell added a pair of touchdown runs and Addison Hundley and Kale Purcell added a touchdown each.
Baldwin 40, Jefferson West 12 – Baldwin picked up its first playoff victory since 2013 with a 40-12 decision over Jefferson West on Saturday. The Bulldogs have won three straight games since opening the season 0-4. Baldwin will travel to Holton for a second-round game.
3A WEST
Riley County 55, Smoky Valley 16 – Riley County led 24-8 after the first quarter and 48-8 at halftime. Senior Nic Allen rushed seven times for 170 yards and four scores. Senior Conner Holle delivered seven of nine passing for 174 yards and two TDs. Junior Trey Harmison finished with five catches for 126 yards and a pair of scores. Senior Bryan Hopper delivered 13 tackles.
Scott City 24, Concordia 14 – Scott City scored on four consecutive drives in the second and third quarter, including a 15-play drive. Scott City led 24-7 after three quarters. Harrison King finished 11 of 15 passing for 211 yards, and Jace Thomas enjoyed a big game. He finished with 30 carries for 121 yards and four TDs, and hauled in two catches for 73 yards. Scott City moved to 6-0 all-time against Concordia, according to Western Kansas News. The Beavers will be at Riley County next week.
Andale 74, Larned 7 – Andale scored 30 in each of the first two quarters in routing Larned, 74-7. Eli Rowland led the Indian ground game with 124 rushing yards and five touchdowns on just nine carries. Rowland also had three catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns. Noah Meyer added 143 yards rushing and three scores on just eight attempts. Wyatt Spexarth passed for 113 yards and a pair of touchdowns – both to Rolwand.
Clearwater 31, Holcomb 15 – Clearwater led 13-0 after the first quarter and 25-0 after three quarters in a slight road upset. Both teams are 7-2, and Clearwater has won two straight games. While the Indians are well-known for quarterback Tanner Cash, the Indians have permitted a solid 22.1 points per contest against a very strong strength of schedule.
Southeast of Saline 46, Clay Center 8 – No. 4 Southeast of Saline, with the classification’s top-scoring defense, improved to 8-0. The Trojans led 8-0 after the first quarter and 24-8 at halftime. Senior Bryant Banks has 22 carries for 157 yards and four touchdowns. Senior Jaxson Gebhardt has 19 carries for 194 yards and two scores. Seniors Tyler Breeding and Sterling Harp delivered eight tackles and three TFLs apiece.
Marysville 45, Colby 21 – Marysville delivered a big home victory against Colby. Marysville tallied the game’s final 31 points and kept Colby scoreless in the second half. Marysville’s Gavin Pieschl had a 79-yard kickoff return and a 49-yard touchdown reception. Colby outgained Marysville, 360-304, according to Colby radio. Ryan Myers threw for 166 yards, and Hagan Booi rushed for 115 yards.
Cheney 40, Halstead 34 – No. 5 Cheney trailed 8-0 and 14-7 before Harrison Voth threw a touchdown pass just before halftime. Halstead regained the lead on a pair of Lakin Farmer touchdowns, though Voth threw the game-winning touchdown to Dayton Higgs with 30 seconds remaining. Cheney stayed undefeated.
Wichita Collegiate 50, Pratt 0 – Collegiate bounced back from its loss to Andale and posted its third shutout this year. The Spartans led 9-0 in the second quarter until adding a pair of touchdowns in the final three minutes of the first half. Collegiate scored then scored a second touchdown set up by the Spartan defense intercepting a Greenback pass. Collegiate will face Cheney next week in a high-profile 3A game.
Class 2A
2A EAST
St. Mary’s Colgan 51, Eureka 7 – Colgan rolled to a 51-7 home victory over Eureka thanks to a big first half. The Panthers led 21-0 after the first quarter and 48-0 at halftime. At one point in the second quarter, Colgan intercepted Eureka passes on three consecutive plays – all which eventually set up Panther scores.
Wellsville 28, Riverton 22 – Wellsville held off visiting Riverton 22-14 to advance to the second round. The Eagles scored on their first drive to lead 7-0 only to have Riverton return the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a score. The two teams traded touchdowns an went to halftime tied 14-14. Wellsville got a touchdown and an interception led to another score late in the third quarter to take a 28-14 lead. The Rams answered with a score and two-point conversion to pull within six points. Wellsville then drove deep into Ram territory, but turned the ball over on downs at the 8-yard line with 2:11 remaining. Riverton then threw an inception two plays later and Wellsville kneeled out the clock.
Rossville 53, Riverside 6 – No. 1 ranked Rossville, with by far 2A’s top scoring offense, led 19-0 after the first quarter and 32-0 at halftime. Junior Torrey Horak completed seven of 13 passes for 83 yards and two scores. Horak also rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown. Woodrow Rezac and Corey Catron each rushed for two touchdowns. Rossville combined for 34 carries for 236 yards and six touchdowns.
Maur Hill-Mount Academy 56, Mission Valley 32 – No. 5 Maur Hill remained undefeated with a big fourth quarter to pull away from Mission Valley. The Raves led 35-32 heading into the fourth quarter before scoring three touchdowns including a pick-six by Shane Sachse. Senior Andrew Schwinn delivered another massive game with 33 carries for 327 yards and six touchdowns. Schwinn also caught a 75-yard touchdown pass from Drew Caudle. Caudle completed 11 of 15 passing for 205 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
Osage City 47, Neodesha 7 – Osage City advanced with a 47-7 home win over Neodesha on Thursday night. The Indians scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and extended that lead to 41-0 at halftime.
Fredonia 47, West Franklin 20 – Fredonia advanced to the second round with a 47-20 win over West Franklin on Thursday night. The Yellow Jackets led 26-0 at halftime and 40-0 in the third quarter before West Franklin returned a kickoff for a touchdown.
Nemaha Central 50, Pleasant Ridge 6 – Nemaha Central, in the mix for a top-5 ranking in Class 2A and the defending 2A champions, was scoreless after the first quarter before rolling to a victory over the Rams. The Thunder scored for a 6-0 lead, and then intercepted a Pleasant Ridge pass, which quickly led to another TD. Later in the quarter, the Thunder picked off another pass and eventually led 30-0 at halftime. Zac Kramer threw a pair of touchdown passes and rushed for a long score. Gage Palic contributed a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Thunder, while Tyler Gerety rushed for a score and caught a touchdown pass from Kramer.
Silver Lake 63, Republic County 6 – No. 3 Silver Lake led 7-6 after the first quarter and bumped to 35-6 at halftime and 56-6 after three quarters. Daigan Kruger threw five touchdown passes and rushed for two more scores. Gannon Remer caught a pair of touchdown passes from Kruger, while Brogan Renfro added a touchdown catch and a rushing score. The Eagles have only lost to No. 1 Rossville.
2A WEST
Hutchinson Trinity 35, Chaparral 0 – Trinity defeated Chaparral for the second time this year. The Celtics defeated Chaparral, 42-18, in Week 2. Trinity led 14-0 at halftime and 21-0 after three quarters. Trinity has four shutouts this year.
Haven 42, Kingman 21 – Haven, projected to be a potential breakout team in the preseason, won its first playoff game in 44 years. Haven led 16-14 late in the first half after Kingman returned a punt for a score. However, dual threat quarterback Darby Roper delivered a rushing touchdown, and then threw a passing TD to Skylar Shingleton. Haven will play Hutchinson Trinity in the Round of 16. Haven beat Trinity in district play for the Celtics’ lone loss. Haven has the program’s first winning season since ’01.
Beloit 55, Thomas More Prep 14 – Beloit led 20-0 before TMP had ran its seventh play, and the Trojans were up 28-6 at halftime. Benson Berndt rushed for 267 yards and three touchdowns. The Monarchs won its first district title and had its most victories since ’02. Beloit improved to 3-6, and TMP ended at 7-2.
Phillipsburg 49, Lakin 26 – Phillipsburg cruised to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and led 27-0 just 1 minute, 17 seconds into the second quarter. Among the first four scores, Ty Sides threw a touchdown pass and also had a scoring run. After an 0-2 start, the Panthers are 5-2 since, that includes a 49-28 road win versus Beloit in Week 5. The two district foes will match up again in Phillipsburg.
Garden Plain 52, Marion 6 – Garden Plain rolled to a 52-6 win over Marion on Thursday night. The Owls scored 16 points in the first and second quarters to take control. Reed Adelhardt rushed for 193 yards and three touchdowns for Garden Plain, while Tranden Daerr added a rushing touchdown and threw a touchdown pass to Colby Haukap. Garden Plain forced four Warrior turnovers, but turned the ball over three times themselves.
Hillsboro 47, Belle Plaine 12 – Hillsboro scored 22 points in the second quarter and added 19 more in the third to pull away from Belle Plaine, 47-12. Quarterback Matthew Potucek passed for 266 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. Potucek also added 96 yards rushing and two scores. Both of Dillon Boldt’s receptions went for touchdowns covering 102 yards.
Hoisington 47, Ellis 0 – No. 3 Hoisington led 27-0 after the first quarter against a depleted Ellis squad. Hoisington improved to 9-0 and 20-1 since the start of last season. The Cardinals had its first shutout of the year and won its seventh straight first round playoff contest. Holt Hanzlick delivered five carries for 94 yards and two scores, according to Cardinal broadcaster Cole Reif.
Cimarron 28, Minneapolis 6 – Cimarron beat Minneapolis, 28-6, at home. This marked the second straight year Cimarron defeated Minneapolis in the first round of the playoffs. Cimarron outscored Minneapolis, 14-0, in the third quarter. Cimarron junior quarterback Braxton Harrison rushed eight times for 125 yards and two scores. Junior Mason Eskam delivered 27 carries for 109 yards and a TD. Cimarron has advanced to Week 10 every year from ’12-20, but has not won in Week 10 in that span.

Olpe (7-1) – First-round bye
Jackson Heights 26, Central Heights 0 – Jackson Heights scored twice in each half to eliminate the visiting Central Heights Vikings, 26-0. The Cobras led 14-0 at halftime and added a score in each of the third and fourth quarters. Jackson Heights will travel to Olpe for the next round. The two teams met earlier this season with Olpe winning 35-0.
Northeast-Arma 1, Valley Heights 0 – Northeast advances due to a COVID-forfeit by Valley Heights.
Uniontown 51, Troy 14 – Uniontown moved into the second round with a 51-14 win over Troy. The Eagles were led by senior Drew Perry’s 238 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 32 attempts. Trenden Buckman added 24 carries for 188 yards and three more scores for the Eagles. Uniontown will now take on winless Northeast-Arma in the second round. The two Three Rivers League members did not meet during the regular season due to a Northeast quarantine.
Centralia (7-1) – First-round bye
Wabaunsee 62, Pleasanton 18 – Wabaunsee pulled away in the second quarter. The Chargers led 7-6 after the first quarter and then outscored Pleasanton, 34-6, in the second quarter. Cade Oliver delivered touchdown passes of seven, 47 yards and 52 yards. He also scored from two yards out, and senior Derek Wallin had four TD runs of two, two, 18 and 33 yards. Wabaunsee improved to 4-5 after three straight 1-8 seasons
Lyndon 57, Horton 6 – Lyndon led 29-0 after the first quarter and 51-0 at halftime en route to a big victory. The Tigers returned three interceptions for touchdowns on the night. Darian Massey rushed for a touchdown and threw a pair of touchdown passes. Lyndon has won two in a row and is 5-1 in the last six contests.
Jefferson Co. North 72, Northern Heights 0 – The Chargers improved to 7-2 with its second straight shutout. Landon Gutschenritter rushed for 221 yards and six touchdowns on just 12 carries in the victory. The Chargers have won four straight contests. Jefferson Co. North has a two-win improvement from last year.

Smith Center (7-1) – First-round bye
Ell-Saline 50, Elkhart 20 – Elkhart scored early off an Ell-Saline interception and led 6-0 early. Then, Ell-Saline bounced back with three consecutive touchdowns to end the first half. Quarterback T.J. Morrical rushed for 129 yards and passed for 126.
Sedgwick 54, Ellinwood 0 – Sedgwick dominated Ellinwood and outgained the Eagles, 601 to minus-7. Lance Hoffsommer completed 19 of 22 passes for 380 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for two scores. Henry Burns went over 1,000 receiving yards and delivered seven catches for 250 yards and a score.
Oakley 50, Wichita Independent 3 – Oakley won its fourth straight game and improved to 7-2. The Plainsmen have permitted just 13.7 points per contest. Oakley delivered a 3-6 record with 29.6 points a game last fall. Oakley led 30-0 at halftime.
Conway Springs (7-1) – First-round bye
Plainville 58, Sublette 0 – Plainville rolled over Sublette and improved to 5-4. The Cardinals have clinched at least a .500 season. Plainville has five straight years of at least .500 ball. Plainville led 52-0 after three quarters.
Inman 61, Stanton County 0 – Inman moved to 7-2 with its third shutout this season and continued to make school history. After a winless year, the Teutons are 6-4, 6-5 and 7-2 the last three seasons. This marked the most victories for Inman in at least a quarter century. Inman led 23-0 after the first quarter. Inman held Stanton County to minus-24 yards, including minus-70 rushing yards. Jace Doerksen passed for 101 yards, including two touchdowns. Inman next will face Remington, which it easily defeated in the regular season.
Whitewater-Remington 56, Sacred Heart 16 – Whitewater-Remington pulled away against a thin Sacred Heart team. Sacred Heart actually led 8-7 in the second quarter before Remington running back Toby Lewis scored four touchdowns. He had runs of two, 16 and 35 yards and delivered a 27-yard pick-six. Remington improved to 4-5.

Sedan 58, Oxford 6 – Sedan improved to 9-0 in a game that ended at halftime. The Blue Devils led 30-6 after the first quarter. Sedan has a four-win improvement over last fall. The Blue Devils have posted six straight winning seasons and have its most victories since a 12-1 season in ’04.
Chase County 66, Cedar Vale-Dexter 0 – Chase County posted its third straight shutout and sixth this season. Chase County improved to 7-2 and has enjoyed a three-win improvement from last year. CC has six total victories in the last three seasons. This is the most victories for the Bulldogs in a single season in at least 15 years.
Clifton-Clyde 46, Bennington 0 – No. 4 Clifton-Clyde beat Bennington in a game that ended at halftime. The Eagles led 38-0 after the first quarter. Aiden Rudolph had scoring runs of 13 and 34 yards and caught a 34-yard touchdown pass. He also threw a 1-yard TD pass.
Little River 56, Washington County 0 – No. 5 Little River cruised over Washington County and improved to 7-2 with its third shutout this year, second straight. Little River led 32-0 after the first quarter in a game that ended at halftime. Jayden Garrison delivered three rushing touchdowns and passed for a touchdown. The Redskins outgained the Tigers, 251-24. Little River gets a rematch at No. 4 Clifton-Clyde next week. Little River lost at Clifton-Clyde, 42-36, in overtime in Week 2. Washington County finished 4-3.
Madison 59, West Elk 6 – Madison again cruised in a game that was over at halftime. The No. 3 Bulldogs led 52-0 after the first quarter. Casey Helm completed all five of his passes for 120 yards and three TDs.
Oswego 54, Central Burden 8 – Oswego defeated Central-Burden, 54-8, in a game that ended in the third quarter. Oswego (8-1) led 30-0 after the first quarter. Junior Jace Landes delivered 10 carries for 113 yards and four touchdowns. Oswego improved to 20-7 under third-year coach Matt Fowler. This is the most wins for Oswego since a 10-1 season in ’09.
Canton-Galva 46, Valley Falls 0 – No. 1 Canton-Galva easily cruised to another win that ended at halftime. The Eagles have captured 22 straight victories, the longest current winning streak in Kansas. Canton-Galva held Valley Falls to 62 total yards. Brayden Collins rushed seven times for 74 yards and three TDs. Garrett Maltbie passed for two touchdowns, both to Tyson Struber.
Burlingame 44, Lincoln 26 – Kris Hovestadt, the state’s leader in interceptions, earned the Bearcats’ overall and special teams player of the game honor. Wyatt Ledom was the offensive player, and Trever Quaney picked up defensive player of the game awards. Ledom rushed 26 times for 231 yards and three scores. Hovestadt, a junior, picked off three passes and has 10 for the year.
8M-I WEST
Argonia-Attica 48, Macksville 0 – Adam Blanchet’s interception return for a touchdown got Argonia-Attica on the board and proved to be all the Titans would need in a 48-0 shutout of Macksville. Xavier Newberry passed for 68 yards and a pair of touchdowns and added 64 rushing yards and two more scores. The Titan defense sacked Mustang quarterback Ryan Kuckelman 11 times on the night as Macksville had minus-17 yards rushing.
La Crosse 60, Moundridge 40 – La Crosse led 28-12 early in the third quarter and was up 54-32 after three quarters. The Leopards are 5-1 in the last six contests and have averaged 62 points a contest in that stretch.
Leoti-Wichita County 68, Hill City 22 – No. 2 Wichita County beat Hill City for the second time this fall. The Indians beat the Ringnecks, 48-0, in Week 3. Wichita County’s closest game was a 54-20 home victory versus Hoxie in Week 1. Since then, all of the wins have come by the 45-point margin. Senior Kayde Rietzke completed 11 of 15 passes for 165 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also rushed 15 times for 264 yards and five scores. Wichita County delivered 512 total yards.
Atwood-Rawlins County 22, Ness City 12 – Ness City had issues with coronavirus and injuries throughout the year. The Eagles again struggled as Edwin Rodriguez and Gavin Schreiber were hurt early on Thursday. Rawlins County controlled the clock throughout and led at halftime. The Buffs were a combined 5-13 the last two seasons, and is 4-3 this season.
Pratt-Skyline 52, Pretty Prairie 6 – For the second time this year, Skyline beat Pretty Prairie. The 8-1 Thunderbirds also defeated two-win Pretty Prairie on Sept. 18.
Goessel 60, Kinsley 14 – Goessel led 38-8 at halftime and finished off Kinsley in the third quarter, 60-14. Jake Wiens rushed for 105 yards and four touchdowns on only seven carries to lead the Bluebirds. Kacen Smith and Luke Wiens also rushed for touchdowns and added 84 and 62 yards, respectively. Peyton Schmidt accounted for both Kinsley touchdowns with a passing and rushing score.
Hoxie 42, Spearville 30 – Hoxie, who hasn’t lost since Week 1, narrowly held off Spearville. Hoxie led 34-30 with four minutes left. Spearville recovered an onside kick, though the officials ruled the ball did not go 10 yards. Hoxie scored again for the eventual win.
South Gray 50, Oberlin-Decatur Community 0 – South Gray won its first playoff game in nine years. Ethan Salmans had a 51-yard touchdown catch and a pair of pick-sixes from 45 and 25 yards. South Gray improved to 8-1. The game was called at halftime. The Rebels led 16-0 after the first quarter and scored 34 points in the second quarter. Aaron Skidmore completed 3 of 3 passing for 82 yards and a score, and rushed 12 times for 75 yards and three TDs. South Gray was plus-2 in turnover margin.

8M-II EAST
Colony-Crest 56, Wakefield 26 – Crest, the No. 1 offense in Division II, received another big game from senior Jacquez Coleman. He completed four of four passes for 88 yards and two scores. He also rushed 15 times for 260 yards and three touchdowns. Crest rushed for 448 yards and six scores.
Hartford 62, St. Paul 12 – Hartford led 14-6 after the first quarter and 50-12 at halftime. The Jaguars are 6-3 after 6-12 in the last two seasons. This is Hartford’s first winning season in four years.
Hanover 56, Osborne 6 – No. 2 Hanover rolled over Osborne for its second win against the Bulldogs this season. In Week 5, Hanover beat Osborne, 54-6. The win ensures a new champion in Division II. Osborne went 13-0 last season, though took major graduation losses. All of the key skill players are non-seniors.
Axtell 42, Thunder Ridge 40 – Trailing 40-20 with 3:21 remaining in the game, Axtell scored 22 points in the final 2:53 to overtake Thunder Ridge, 42-40. Axtell quarterback Isaac Detweiler tossed a 19-yard touchdown pass to George Volle to pull within 40-26 with 2:53 remaining. Just seven seconds later, the Eagles were in the end zone again as Detweiler connected with Mitchell Buessing for a 35-yard strike. Detweiler rushed for the game-winning four-yard touchdown with 29 seconds left. Thunder Ridge led 20-0 at halftime and 26-0 in the third quarter before Axtell began its comeback. Axtell outscored the Longhorns, 14-12, in the third quarter and 28-8 in the fourth. Thunder Ridge outgained Axtell, 434-359. Detweiler finished 21 of 34 passing for 237 yards and two scores. Thunder Ridge lost three games by a combined 11 points and also won a contest in overtime.
Lebo 58, Chetopa 0 – No. 4 Lebo cruised versus the Green Hornets. Senior quarterback Devan McEwen completed six of nine passes for 94 yards with two scores against one interception. He also rushed six times for 64 yards and three scores.
Waverly 66, Marais des Cygnes Valley 32 – Waverly led 12-6 after the first quarter and outscored MdCV, 32-18, in the second quarter. Damian Foster had a 30-yard interception return and scored on TD runs of 12, 44, 66, 20 and 39 yards.
Beloit St. John’s-Tipton 50, Onaga 14 – BSJT led 14-0 after the first quarter but Onaga tied the game at 14 at halftime. However, the Blujays scored 22 points in the third and 14 in the fourth. Senior Brayden Perez delivered 22 carries for 202 yards and two scores. The Blujays rushed for 295 yards and six touchdowns overall.
Frankfort 60, Lakeside-Downs 14 – Frankfort scored the game’s first 30 points and cruised to a 60-14 win over Lakeside-Downs. Quarterback Gavin Cornelison rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 159 yards and two more scores. Caden Dalinghaus and Ethan Armstrong each rushed for two touchdowns and each caught a touchdown pass.
8M-II WEST
Victoria 54, Norwich 6 – No. 3 Victoria ended the game at halftime when Grant Schoenrock threw a TD pass to freshman Seth Schwien in the corner of the end zone as time expired. Schwien had a big game, including a 40-yard fumble return. Senior center Trenton Engel battled through an ankle injury and delivered a gritty effort with his snapping. Victoria was very thin at the position. Schoenrock continued his big year with five touchdowns accounted for. The Knights have not lost a home playoff game since 2011. Victoria gets a rematch against Sylvan-Lucas, which it beat in the regular season.
Sylvan-Lucas Unified 74, South Barber 24 – Jaxson Heenan and Geriun Boor combined for more than 300 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns for Sylvan-Lucas. Heenan had missed the last two weeks, according to Russell Radio. Sylvan-Lucas moved into Week 10 for the third straight year and gets a rematch versus No. 3 Victoria. The Mustangs lost to Victoria in district play.
South Central 34, Quinter 14 – South Central won its seventh straight game and is a win away from its fifth straight quarterfinal. Junior Colby Snyder completed six of 12 passes for 49 yards and two touchdowns against two interceptions. Senior Jonny Robles continued his impressive career with 14 carries for 184 yards and a TD.
Wheatland-Grinnell 56, Minneola 20 – Wheatland-Grinnell improved to 7-2 and 15-4 since the start of last season and won a Week 9 bracket game for the second straight year. Junior Trey Vincent enjoyed another nice game with 17 of 26 passing for 210 yards and four touchdowns. Junior Isaac Mendez has 21 carries for 257 yards and four TDs. Sophomore Jett Vincent caught two receiving scores. W-G picked off a pass.
Caldwell 68, Wilson 20 – This game was likely going to hinge on whether Caldwell had top players back. Key Caldwell back Keiondre Smith returned after he missed the last several games. Wilson started the game with a touchdown before Smith tied the game on a 27-yard run. Trey Strnad tallied TD runs of 13 and 52 yards. Wilson closed to 22-14 before Caldwell rolled in a game that was called at in the third quarter. Smith passed for 72 and rushed for 150. Strnad rushed seven times for 127 yards and two scores. Wilson standout senior back Cooper Weinhold delivered 20 carries for 56 yards and a score.
Central Plains 50, Peabody-Burns 0 – Central Plains held Peabody-Burns to 51 yards of total offense in a 50-0 win on Thursday night. The Oilers scored 24 points in the first quarter and 26 in the second. Dawson McNeal rushed for 87 yards and three touchdowns in the victory.
Saint Francis 54, Ingalls 0 – No. 1 St. Francis rolled over Ingalls in a game that was over at halftime. Shadryon Blanka picked up his fourth offer, from Dodge City CC, last week. The Indians have allowed just 30 points all season. Saint Francis will host Bucklin on Saturday, November 7th at 11:00 a.m.
Bucklin 74, Triplains-Brewster 48 – Coach Trever Powell, in his first fall, has led an impressive one-year turnaround for the Red Aces. Bucklin is 6-3, a two-win improvement over last year. Bucklin is playing in Week 10 for the first time since ’06. Junior Nathan Bowman completed nine of 11 passes for 187 yards with a score. He also rushed 10 times for 86 yards and three touchdowns. Junior Scott Price continued his impressive year with 15 carries for 171 yards and five scores. Sophomore Zaden Pearce led with 15 tackles.

6-Man Championship – Wild West Bowl
Cheylin 46, Moscow 0 – Cheylin captured the 6-Man title with a 46-0 win over Moscow. The Cougars led 26-0 at halftime and 33-0 after three quarters. Moscow defeated Cheylin 52-6 in the state title game last season. This is Cheylin’s first state championship in any sport.
6-Man Consolation Game
Golden Plains 58, Cunningham 31 – Golden Plains broke open a close game with a big second half to claim third place. The Bulldogs led 32-25 at halftime and outscored the Wildcats 26-6 in the second half. Golden Plains (5-3) finished third for the second consecutive season.
