Class 1A

1A EAST

Highlighted Games:

D1-#5 Central Heights (4-3) at D2-#4 Jackson Heights (4-4) – Jackson Heights

Central Heights will visit Jackson Heights in a rematch of last year’s first-round game. Jackson Heights won last year’s contest, 26-0. Central Heights has produced consecutive four-win seasons for the first time since 2012-13. The Vikings are searching for their first playoff win since 2008. Senior Tony Detweiler has been a big reason for the recent success at Central Heights. After rushing for more than 1,000 yards last season, Detweiler has produced nearly 800 yards on the ground this year to go along with nine touchdowns. Jackson Heights is led by Jason Bosley who will look to lead the Cobras on a postseason run after being injured after four games last season.

D2-#6 Troy (4-4) at D1-#3 Uniontown (3-5) – Troy

Another rematch from last year’s first round has Troy making a return trip to Uniontown. Last year it was the Eagles that came away with a big 51-14 victory before eventually advancing to the 1A quarterfinals. Uniontown enters this contest having dropped back-to-back games to Central Heights and Lyndon. Junior Trendon Buckman leads the Eagles with more than 750 yards rushing and eight touchdowns this season. Troy is led by the passing attack of quarterback Cam Anderson. Anderson has thrown for 1,607 yards and 21 touchdowns through the regular season. Jerrit Norris has 735 receiving yards and eight scores, while Boden Benitz has 489 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

Other first-round games:

1A WEST

Highlighted Games:

D3-#5 Oakley (3-5) at D4-#4 Elkhart (4-4) – Oakley

Oakley, the defending 1A state runner-up to Olpe, opened the season 0-5 before three straight victories. Elkhart is 4-4 with just 86 points scored. Oakley has tallied 192 points. Oakley has 6.7 yards per carry but has struggled passing with 416 passing yards, 49 percent completion and a 4/7 TD/INT ratio. Senior Christian Koch has 65 tackles. Oakley is 3-0 against Elkhart in the playoffs, with the last matchup in ’14. Elkhart has 4.2 yards per carry. Junior Clayton Cole has 575 passing yards and 288 rushing yards.

D3-#6 Ellinwood (1-7) at D4-#3 Whitewater-Remington (4-3) – Whitewater-Remington

Ellinwood’s only win is a 9-6 double-overtime victory at Sacred Heart. This would be a big milestone win for Remington. A victory gives the Broncos a winning record, the first since 2010. Remington had a competitive 12-point loss to Conway Springs and wins versus Douglass, Wichita Independent, Sublette and Elkhart.
