Class 6A
1-Olathe North 38, 8-Olathe Northwest 17 – Olathe North defeated Northwest for the second time in three weeks. The Eagles led 21-3 at halftime and 28-3 after three quarters. Noah Palmer rushed for a short touchdown and threw a touchdown pass to Jacob Parrish. Aquantez Love added two rushing touchdowns for the Eagles.
5-Blue Valley 24, 4-Blue Valley Northwest 7 – After falling to Blue Valley Northwest 24-17 in the season opener, the Tigers defeated the Huskies on Friday, 24-7. Blue Valley’s Greyson Holbert rushed for 107 yards and two scores and added 73 passing yards. Holbert’s two first-quarter touchdowns got the Tigers off to a quick start, but Blue Valley’s lead was 14-7 until a Charlie Weinrich field goal in the third quarter. Blue Valley Northwest completed a solid season at 5-2. The Huskies were led by quarterback Mikey Pauley who passed for 143 yards including a touchdown to Max Muehlberger. Blue Valley was able to limit the Northwest run game to 47 yards on 28 carries.
2-Shawnee Mission Northwest 26, 7-Olathe West 14 – Shawnee Mission Northwest shut out Olathe West in the second half en route to a 26-14 victory. Trailing 14-13 at halftime, the Cougars took the lead for good on a Ty Black fourth-down touchdown pass to Jack Meylan in the third quarter. Justin Mitchell added a 32-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to put Northwest up two scores and propel the Cougars into the quarterfinal round.
6-Blue Valley North 33, 3-Olathe East 21 – Henry Martin threw three first-half touchdown passes as Blue Valley North built a 31-7 lead and defeated Olathe East, 33-21. Martin hit Mehki Miller for a pair of touchdown passes and Miller added a short touchdown run in the first half. Martin completed 23 of 32 passes for 325 yards with his third touchdown pass going to Cole Stratton. Ma’rrell Fountain rushed for well over 100 yards and scored all three Hawk touchdowns.
6A – WEST
1-Lawrence 1, 9-Dodge City 0 – Lawrence advanced into the state quarterfinal round via forfeit given the COVID-19 situation with the Dodge City football team.
4-Derby 48, 5-Gardner-Edgerton 28 – Third-ranked Derby dominated Gardner-Edgerton throughout and led 35-7 at halftime. Derby’s first touchdown came on a blocked punt that Reid Liston fell on for a score. Len Wash cleared 100 yards passing and rushing. Derby gets Lawrence (9-0) in a huge matchup next week.
2-Junction City 70, 10-Wasburn Rural 25 – Junction City used an impressive offensive display in racing past Washburn Rural, 70-25. Senior quarterback Andrew Khoury passed for 526 yards and six touchdowns to lead the Blue Jays to victory. Khoury hit Marcello Bussey eight times for 205 yards and three touchdowns. Russell Wilkey also caught three touchdown passes and had seven receptions for 174 yards. Wilkey also rushed for a score. The Blue Jay ground game was led by D.J. Giddens’ 80 yards and three rushing touchdowns.
3-Wichita East 20, 6-Manhattan 7 – Wichita East continued its best season since 1983. Wide receiver Daylan Jones, with multiple Division I offers, took over at quarterback for East. Manhattan took a 7-0 lead off a pick-six. Jones threw a TD pass for an 8-7 lead. He followed with two more TD passes. East led 14-7 and Manhattan dropped an open touchdown pass. The entire game combined for under 400 yards of total offense. East’s defense held Vincent Smith to seven carries for 13 yards. Jones finished with 99 passing yards.

9-Blue Valley Southwest 27, 1-Topeka Seaman 21 – Blue Valley Southwest scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to overtake top-seeded Topeka Seaman, 27-21. Seaman led 21-14 entering the fourth quarter, but Southwest quarterback Tanner Curry scored on a short touchdown run to tie the game with 6:24 left. The Timberwolves got a big defensive stop when Tristen Everard picked off a Viking pass with under 2:30 left. Currey then hit Zach Atkins on a 12-yard touchdown pass with :54 seconds left for the winning score. Curry and Atkins also hooked up on a touchdown late in the second quarter to tie the game at 14-14 at halftime.
4-St. Thomas Aquinas 48, 5-Pittsburg 13 – Aquinas scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to pull away from Pittsburg as part of a 48-13 win. The Saints were led by Tank Young’s 105 yards and two scores on just nine attempts. Sean Carroll added 87 yards and three scores on 19 carries for Aquinas. Pittsburg was led by Caiden Barber’s 79 yards and two scores.
2-De Soto 56, 7-Leavenworth 31 – De Soto needed a late touchdown to defeat Leavenworth earlier this season, but this time the Wildcat offense was too much for the Pioneers to stay close. Jackson Miller threw four touchdown passes on the night – three to Hayden Henderson – as De Soto rolled to a 56-31 win. The Wildcats led 35-10 as Miller had thrown three scoring passes and rushed for a touchdown. Miller added his second rushing score of the night in the second half. Tyler Schultze rushed for a score and caught a touchdown pass from Miller.
3-Mill Valley 51, 6-Spring Hill 0 – Mill Valley cruised to a 51-0 shut out of Spring Hill and into the state quarterfinals. Quin Wittenauer returned to the Jaguar backfield and rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns on 22 attempts. Quarterback Cooper Marsh completed 13 of 21 passes for 204 yards and a touchdown that went to Kendrick Jones. Jacob Hartman moved back to receiver and had five catches for 80 yards. Chris Tennant converted three field goals in the win and the Jaguars also returned an interception and a blocked punt for touchdowns.
5A – West
1-Wichita Northwest 69, 8-Wichita Heights 0 – Top-ranked Wichita Northwest, the two-time defending 5A state runner-up, has led 5A in scoring offense and defense. Northwest led 55-0 at halftime with its second win versus Heights this fall. Northwest beat Heights, 56-21, on Sept. 9.
4-Kapaun Mt. Carmel 38, 5-Goddard 15 – Kapaun is 8-1 and has quadrupled its win total from a 2-7 season last fall. With new coach Weston Schartz, a longtime City League veteran, the Crusaders have enjoyed their best playoff appearance since a state semifinal showing in ’13. KMC had its usual formula of running game and defense. Kapaun picked off Goddard quarterback Kyler Semrad three times and took a 17-7 lead. Cale Curtis and Austin Ruda delivered early rushing touchdowns.
7-Bishop Carroll 42, 2-Hutchinson 28 – No. 3 Bishop Carroll defeated No. 5 Hutchinson in the first matchup between the longtime powers since 2011. Hunter Trail opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles. The game was tied at 14. However, the game turned late in the first half when Carroll blocked a kick by Cade Gatschet and Ryan Birch returned for a touchdown. The Golden Eagles improved to 7-2, and Hutchinson completed a big turnaround to 8-2 after back-to-back 2-7 years.
3-Maize 59, 11-Maize South 27 – Maize beat rival Maize South for the second time this fall after slipping by the Mavericks, 42-38, on Oct. 9. This time, the Eagles led 14-7 after the first quarter. The Eagles had a big third quarter and led 52-14 entering the fourth. Maize’s Josh Sanders had another huge game with 19 carries for 265 yards and four touchdowns. Avery Johnson completed eight of 11 passes for 98 yards and two scores, both to Jacob Hanna. Sanders’ TD runs came from nine, 96, 33 and 53 yards.

4A East
9-St. James Academy 45, 1-Paola 35 – St. James Academy got off to a hot start and held got a key turnover late to hold on to knock out No. 1 Paola, 45-35. The Thunder scored on the game’s first play on a 65-yard reverse flea-flicker pass from Dakota Burritt to Tyler Claiborn for a 7-0 lead. The Thunder then surprised Paola with a successful onside kick that led to a La’James White touchdown run and a 14-0 lead. The lead grew to 17-0 after a Josh Kirby field goal and ballooned to 31-7 at halftime. Paola added two third-quarter touchdowns on runs by Garrett Williams and Jovonni Blackie to pull within 31-21. White answered for St. James to push the lead back to 38-21, but consecutive touchdowns from Blackie and Fletcher Aude pulled Paola within 38-35 with more than eight minutes remaining in the game. Trailing by three, Paola faced a pivotal 4th-and-3 at midfield with 2:40 remaining. After a timeout, St. James’ Holden Artzer jumped in front of Williams’ pass and returned the interception inside the Paola 5-yard line. White added his fourth rushing touchdown two plays later and St. James escaped with the 45-35 win. White rushed for 166 yards on the night, while Burritt completed 13 of 21 passes for 217 yards and a score. Claiborn caught six balls for 134 yards.
4-Basehor-Linwood 19, 12- Eudora 12 – Zach Sisemore broke a 12-12 tie with a short touchdown run in the final 1:20 to lift Basehor-Linwood to a 19-12 win over Eudora. Sisemore rushed for 105 yards and that game-winning score on 30 attempts. Isaac Stanton passed for 203 yards and a touchdown, but was intercepted three times. Brant Wilson also tossed a touchdown pass for the Bobcats. Eudora’s ball-control offense was led by Brayden Beerbower’s 189 rush yards on 38 carries. Quarterback Zeke Reazin also added 87 rushing yards and a score and passed for another touchdown.
10-Bishop Miege 63, 2-Fort Scott 12 – Bishop Miege scored all 63 points in the first half of a 63-12 rout of previously-unbeaten Fort Scott. The Stags and Tigers played a wild first quarter that included a combined 48 points with Miege leading 36-12. The second quarter started with Miege’s Collin Williams intercepting a Fort Scott pass and returning it for a touchdown. Quarterback Timothy Dorsey completed all eight of his pass attempts for 205 yards and three scores. Jaylen Burch added 123 yards and two scores on seven carries, while Dorsey added 79 yards and a scores on six attempts. Fort Scott’s Malachi Vann rushed for 108 yads and passed for 89 yards and two scores in the game. Both of Vann’s touchdown passes went to Donald Harper covering 82 yards.
3-Tonganoxie 49, 6-Lansing 10 – Tonganoxie broke Friday’s regional game with Lansing open with 35 combined points in the second quarter on its way to a 49-10 victory. Tyler Bowden rushed for 257 yards and five touchdowns as the Chieftains advanced to a quarterfinal showdown with six-time defending champion Bishop Miege. Sam Kleidosty added 81 yards and a score on the ground and caught a touchdown pass from Blake Poje in the win. Bowden pushed his season total to 2,479 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns.
4A East
1-McPherson 52, 8-Augusta 20 – McPherson scored in each quarter in cruising past Augusta, 52-20. It was the Bullpups second victory over the Orioles in the past three weeks. Jaytin Gumm rushed for 186 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries to pace the Bullpup offense. Dylan Rinker added 178 passing yards and three touchdowns for McPherson. Jett Hand rushed and passed for a touchdown for Augusta.
5-Buhler 42, 4-Rose Hill 8 – Buhler ended Rose Hill’s six-game winning streak. The Rockets fumbled on the game’s first drive, and Buhler returned a fumble 50 yards for a TD. Bradley Neill threw a 36-yard touchdown pass. Buhler scored 21 points in the second quarter. The Crusaders improved to 6-3 and have won three in a row. Buhler reached the quarterfinals for the second straight year.
10-Arkansas City 33, 2-Andover Central 28 – Ark City used big plays in the passing game and a defensive score to help upset Andover Central, 33-28. Lucas Barnes caught a pair of long touchdown passes – one each from Gabe Welch and Caden Clark – as part of his 181-yard receiving night. The game was tied in the second quarter when Korbin Wise grabbed an Andover Central fumble and raced 59 yards for a touchdown and a 21-14 halftime lead. Welch added a short touchdown run in the third quarter to put the Bulldogs up two scores. Welch later added his second rushing score after the Jaguars had pulled to within 27-21. Andover Central threatened late inside the Ark City 5-yard line, but a penalty and a sack eventually ended the Jaguar scoring threat. The win advances Arkansas City is into the quarterfinal round of the 4A playoffs for the third consecutive season.
6-Wamego 21, 3-El Dorado 18 – Wamego won a back-and-forth contest at El Dorado, 21-18. The Red Raiders were led by quarterback Hayden Oviett’s 211 rushing yards on 29 attempts. Oviett scored all three of Wamego’s touchdowns.

3A EAST
Prairie View 13, Girard 12 – Damien Kline’s 21-yard touchdown scramble late in the third quarter proved to be the winning points in Prairie View’s 13-12 win over Girard. The Trojans put a drive together and reached inside the Prairie View 20-yard line, but eventually missed a 31-yard field goal with 2:20 remaining in the game. Kline scored both touchdowns for the Buffaloes, while Connor Olivera scored twice for Girard.
Perry-Lecompton 20, Topeka Hayden 7 – Despite suiting up less than 30 players, Perry-Lecompton went on the road and grinded past Topeka Hayden, 20-7. Perry-Lecompton scored first on a Thad Metcalfe touchdown run, but failed to convert the two-point attempt. Hayden took a 7-6 lead on a Will DeVader touchdown run into halftime thanks to a goal-line stand that turned the Kaws away just before half. Metcalfe scored the winning points early in the fourth quarter as the Kaws took a 14-7 lead. Hayden again stopped Perry-Lecompton on downs with goal-to-go with under :40 seconds remaining. Hayden took over deep in its own territory trailing by a touchdown. The Wildcts completed a pass on the first play, but it was fumbled and scooped up by Perry-Lecompton’s Jackson Payne and returned for a 15-yard touchdown. Metcalfe rushed for 128 yards to lead the Kaws to the quarterfinals where they will host Prairie View next week.
Frontenac 22, Burlington 6 – Frontenac scored late in the first half to break a scoreless game and eventually held of for a 22-6 win over Burlington. It was the Raiders’ second win at Burlington this season as Frontenac won the district matchup 28-12. Frontenac added a touchdown in the third quarter on a 1-yard Collin McCartney run to lead 14-0. Burlington would answer with a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to pull within 14-6, but Frontenac would immediately answer as Mario Menghini returned the ensuing kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown.
Holton 49, Baldwin 8 – Holton scored all 49 points in the first half of its 49-8 win over Baldwin. The Wildcats lead 21-0 after one quarter and scored four more times in the second quarter. Konnor Tannahill rushed for a pair of touchdowns and Canon Karn added another rushing score. Matt Lierz also returned a kickoff nearly 80 yards for a touchdown. Holton will travel to Frontenac for next week’s state quarterfinal matchup.
3A WEST
Riley County 43, Scott City 14 – Riley County improved to 8-1 with all of its victories by at least 21 points. In the first ever matchup between the schools, Riley County’s Connor Halle opened the scoring with a 20-yard touchdown pass. Then, Nic Allen tallied a 13-yard scoring run. Allen also had a 76-yard run, along with a 36-yard TD scoring run. Allen delivered 25 carries for 233 yards and three scores. Scott City finished 6-4.
Andale 53, Clearwater 0 – After defeating Clearwater 40-21 in district play, top-ranked Andale dominated the rematch with a 53-0 decision on Friday night. The Indians led 42-0 at halftime thanks to a huge night from Eli Rowland. Rowland rushed for 213 yards and five touchdowns on 25 attempts. Noah Meyer carried 14 times for 136 yards and a score as Andale racked up 360 rush yards. Andale’s defense was exceptional in holding Clearwater to 152 yards of total offense.
Southeast of Saline 20, Marysville 0 – No. 4 Southeast of Saline continued 3A’s best scoring defense by a significant margin. The 9-0 Trojans have its most wins since a 10-1 season in ’06. SES has four shutout victories. The game was tied at zero after the first quarter. SES scored eight points in the second and six in the third and third. Bryant Banks rushed for the game’s first touchdown from seven yards. In the third quarter, Jaxson Gebhardt rushed for a 55-yard scoring run. Banks collected a 22-yard TD score in the fourth.
Wichita Collegiate 35, Cheney 20 – Wichita Collegiate advanced to the quarterfinals with an impressive road-win at Cheney, 35-20. The Spartans held a slim 7-6 lead in the first quarter before scoring three consecutive touchdowns to take a 29-6 lead in the second quarter. Cheney got back in the game with a Harrison Voth touchdown pass to Luke Grace to pull within 29-14 at the half. The Cardinals then pulled to within 29-20 as Voth hit Marcus Peintner on a 40-yard scores in the third quarter. Collegiate answered right back early in the fourth quarter to extend its lead to 35-20.

2A EAST
St. Mary’s Colgan 24, Wellsville 0 – Colgan turned in an impressive defensive performance in shutting out Wellsville, 24-0. The Panthers opened with an impressive drive that came up empty after a missed field goal, but Dom Bevilacqua broke a 58-yard touchdown run on the next possession for a 7-0 lead. Janko Kalan’s field made it 10-0 and Jake Wright connected with Aiden Fleming on a touchdown pass to make it 17-0 at halftime. Wright tossed his second touchdown pass of the night to Gianni Piccini to complete the Panther scoring.
Rossville 53, Maur Hill-Mount Academy 21 – No. 1 Rossville cruised against Maur Hill, which had enjoyed its first perfect regular season since 1984. Rossville, by far the highest scoring 2A offense, put up another big total. Maur Hill generated 357 yards of total offense, though Rossville picked off Raven quarterback Drew Caudle twice. Rossville held Andrew Schwinn, one of the state’s top rushers, to 20 carries for 61 yards and a long of nine yards.
Osage City 1, Fredonia 0 – Osage City advanced into the state quarterfinal round via forfeit given the COVID-19 situation with Fredonia.
Nemaha Central 40, Silver Lake 30 – Defending-champion Nemaha Central used a strong defensive performance and outscored Silver Lake 20-9 in the second half to win, 40-30. Thunder quarterback Zac Kramer rushed for 187 yards and five touchdowns in the victory. His two third-quarter touchdowns turned a 21-20 halftime deficit into a 32-21 Thunder lead. After Silver Lake answered with its second kickoff return for a touchdown of the game to pull within 32-28, Kramer broke a 73-yard touchdown run to put Nemaha Central up 40-28.
2A WEST
Haven 26, Hutchinson Trinity 6 – Haven continued its dream season. The Wildcats beat Hutchinson Trinity, 20-18, in districts and earned its fifth straight win Friday. Haven (8-2) doubled its win total from last year, has its first winning season since ’01 and first playoff victory in 44 seasons. Hutchinson Trinity (8-2) led 6-0 midway through the first quarter before Haven captured 26 straight points. The game was tied at six at halftime. Haven led 12-6 early in the third quarter and tacked on a pair of fourth quarter TDs.
Beloit 1, Phillipsburg 0 – Beloit advanced into the state quarterfinal round via forfeit given the COVID-19 situation with Phillipsburg.
Garden Plain 25, Hillsboro 20 – Garden Plain withstood a late Hillsboro rally to hold on for a 25-20 victory. Reed Adelhardt’s 25-yard touchdown run mid-way through the third quarter gave the Owls a seemingly comfortable 25-7 lead. However, Hillsboro responded with a pair of Matthew Potucek touchdown passes to Duncan Duell to pull within 25-20 with four minutes left. The Trojans then got the ball back and reached Garden Plain territory before the Owls held them on downs. Adelhardt rushed for 192 yards and three scores to lead the Owls, while Tranden Daerr added 87 yards rushing and threw a touchdown pass to Colby Haukap. Potocek rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown and passed for 81 yards and two scores for Hillsboro.
Hoisington 1, Ellis 0 – Hoisington advanced into the state quarterfinal round via forfeit given the COVID-19 situation with Cimarron.

1A EAST
Olpe 53, Jackson Heights 0 – Olpe shut out Jackson Heights for a second time this season – this time by a 53-0 count. After a slim 3-0 lead after one quarter, Olpe exploded for five touchdowns in the second quarter and lead 38-0 at halftime. Damon Redeker rushed for two scores and threw a pair of touchdown passes to Jordan Barnard. Barnard also returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the game. Olpe will face Uniontown in the quarterfinals next week. Olpe defeated Uniontown 48-2 back in Week 4.
Uniontown 45, Northeast-Arma 0 – Uniontown advanced to the quarterfinals with a 45-0 shutout of Three Rivers League rival Northeast-Arma. The Eagles were led by sophomore Treden Buckman’s 150 rushing yards on 15 carries. Drew Perry added 102 yards and three scores for Uniontown. The Eagles will travel to Olpe in the next round. Olpe defeated Uniontown 48-2 back in Week 4.
Centralia 52, Wabaunsee 6 – Centralia defeated Wabaunsee for a second straight time surrounding a first-round bye last week. The Panthers built a 30-0 lead in taking control early against the Chargers. The defending-champion Panthers led just 8-0 after one quarter, but scored three times in the second quarter. Centralia defeated Wabaunsee 60-20 two weeks ago. The Panthers will get another rematch next week when they take on Lyndon. Centralia defeated Lyndon 48-17 during the regular season.
Lyndon 47, Jefferson Co. North 22 – Lyndon scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and rolled to a 47-22 win over Jefferson County North. The Tigers were led by Luke Detwiler who rushed for three touchdowns and returned a kickoff 92 yards for another score. Ethan Eddington rushed for a touchdown and returned an interception 85 yards for another score. Landon Gutschenritter rushed for a pair of scores and caught a touchdown pass to account for the Chargers’ scoring.
1A WEST
Smith Center 34, Ell-Saline 10 – No. 3 Smith Center won its eighth straight contest and improved to 8-1. The Redmen added a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns on Friday night after leading 21-3 after three quarters. Smith Center beat Ell-Saline, 46-13, back in Week 7.
Oakley 27, Sedgwick 24 – Ethan Abell rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries as Oakley grinded out a 27-24 win over Sedgwick. Oakley intercepted Sedgwick quarterback Lance Hoffsommer a couple of times, but his long touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter pulled the Cardinals to within three. After the touchdown, Sedgwick couldn’t stop the clock and Oakley pulled out the victory.
Conway Springs 14, Plainville 7 – Cole Schulte scored on a 3-yard touchdown run with :45 seconds left to propel Conway Springs to a 14-7 win over Plainville. Schulte scored both of the Conway Springs touchdowns as part of his 173-yard rushing night. Heath Hilger and Jonathan Wright added 84 and 59 yards, respectively. Kyle Werner led Plainville with 93 yards rushing. Ethan Hamilton passed for 125 yards and scored Plainville’s only touchdowns on a short run in the second quarter.
Inman 50, Whitewater-Remington 6 – No. 5 Inman defeated Remington for the second time this season and moved into the quarterfinals for the second consecutive fall. Carter Brown missed the Week 9 win when Inman held Stanton County to negative total yards. He was in on 16 tackles in in the last half. Coach Lance Sawyer believed Nate Shober, the coach on the field for defense, had one of his best games. Offensively, quarterback Jace Doerksen became the school record holder for passing yards in a season. Kendyn Blank and Derick Johnson had big games running and catching, respectively. Overall, Doerksen has completed 84 of 125 passes for 1,457 yards with an 18/4 TD/INT ratio. Blank has carried 67 times for 537 yards and eight scores. Inman led 21-0 after the first quarter and 42-0 at halftime. Doerksen had 8 of 11 of 126 yards for a score, while Blank delivered six carries for 91 yards and three TDs. Johnson received three catches for 77 yards. Shober helped on seven tackles.

8M-I EAST
Chase County 56, Sedan 18 – Chase County advanced to the state quarterfinals for the first time in 30 years. Mitch Budke delivered 21 carries for 117 yards and two touchdowns. He threw a passing score, had a 63-yard pick-six and 22 total tackles. The Bulldogs’s best finishes are quarterfinals in ’79 and state runner-up in ’90.
Little River 46, Clifton-Clyde 26 – Little River reversed their regular-season loss at Clifton-Clyde with a 46-26 victory on Friday night. Jayden Garrison rushed for 177 yards and four touchdowns and passed for 145 yards and three more scores in the victory. The Redskins got off to a good start on the road with a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. Little River maintained that lead at 28-12 at halftime and 34-18 after three quarters. The Redskins will take on Chase County in the quarterfinals next week.
Madison 60, Oswego 0 – Madison scored 40 points in the first quarter in taking control of a big playoff win over Oswego. Hunter Engle rushed for a pair of scores and Casey Helm tossed a pair of touchdown passes in the opening frame. Helm’s touchdown passes went to Brome Rayburn and Ryan Wolgram. Wolgram also rushed for a score. The second quarter was more of the same with the Bulldog defense getting into the action. Engle returned an Oswego fumble 60 yards for a touchdown, and Isaac Miser scooped up an Indian fumble and scored less than :30 seconds later. Madison will travel to defending-champion Canton-Galva in the quarterfinal round.
Canton-Galva 56, Burlingame 6 – Canton-Galva lead Burlingame 12-6 after one quarter, then the defending champs exploded for 44 points in the second quarter to end the game at half time, 56-6. After Burlingame took an early 6-0 lead on a touchdown pass from Evan Young to Garrett Robison, Canton-Galva too control with five consecutive rushing touchdowns – two from quarterback Garrett Maltbie and three from Brayden Collins. Maltbie then returned an interception for a touchdown and tossed touchdown passes to Tyler Rummel and Tyson Struber. Maltbie passed for 120 yards and added 58 yards rushing. Collins rushed for a game-high 77 yards and three scores. Canton-Galva will host Madison in a huge quarterfinal showdown. The Eagles defeated Madison, 46-6, in the state semifinals last fall.
8M-I WEST
Argonia-Attica 60, La Crosse 14 – A&A led 36-0 at halftime. The Titans scored 14 points in the first quarter and 22 in the second. Xander Newberry earned the team’s overall player of the game. Newbery completed 12 of 15 passes for 143 yards and three scores. He also rushed 12 times for 164 yards and three scores. Senior Noah Phillips caught a pair of scores.
Leoti-Wichita County 68, Atwood-Rawlins Co. 0 – No. 2 Wichita County improved to 10-0 and won its ninth straight contest by the 45-point margin. This marked Wichita County’s third shutout this season. The Indians have tallied at 48 points in every game.
Goessel 54, Pratt-Skyline 48 (2 OT) – Goessel survived a tip to Pratt by outlasting the Skyline Thunderbirds, 54-48, in double overtime. The two teams went into overtime tied at 42. They each scored on their first overtime possession to send the game to a second OT tied at 48. Skyline got the ball first and did not score. Once Goessel got the ball, the power at the field went out for a short time. Once returned Goessel scored to pick of the victory and advance to the quarterfinal round for the first time since 2009.
Hoxie 50, South Gray 0 – This game was expected to be much closer, but Hoxie led 30-0 at halftime and dominated throughout. South Gray turned the ball over on the game’s first play and played without offensive coordinator Jeff Blattner. He had missed the entire week with sickness. Hoxie has doubled its win total from last season and is 8-1. Junior Ashton Dowell rushed for a pair of scores and passed for three.

Colony-Crest 64, Hartford 14 – Crest advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2012 with a 64-14 win over Hartford. Crest’s high-scoring offense is led by Jacquez Coleman, Holden Barker and Stratton McGhee averages 57.5 points per game. The Lancers and Jaguars opened the season against each other in 2018 and 2019 with each school winning one of those matchups.
Hanover 52, Axtell 6 – Hanover defeated Axtell for the second time this season thanks to another big performance from Colin Jueneman. Jueneman rushed for 129 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Wildcat offense. Jacob Jueneman added 60 yards and a rushing score, while Emmitt Jueneman added 69 yards and a score. The Hanover defense held Axtell to 31 rush yards on 24 attempts. Isaac Detweiler passed for 182 yards and rushed for 37 yards including the Eagles’ only score.
Lebo 56, Waverly 8 – Lebo scored 32 points in the first quarter in rolling past its school-district rival Waverly, 56-8. Wolves’ quarterback Devan McEwan rushed for four touchdowns and threw a pair of touchdown passes. Kyle Reese added a long punt return for a score for the Wolves.
Frankfort 54, Beloit St. John’s-Tipton 43 – Frankfort defeated St. John’s-Tipton 54-43, on Friday, for the Wildcats’ fourth victory over the Blujays in the past three seasons. Frankfort took the lead for good on a touchdown pass from Gavin Cornelison to Bryce Stowell mid-way through the second quarter. Jaret Eitzmann answered for BSJT to pull within 22-21, but the PAT was blocked. Frankfort then tacked on a touchdown just before half on an Ethan Armstrong touchdown run to lead 30-21. Cornelison’s scoring run extended the Wildcat lead to 38-21, but St. John’s-Tipton got consecutive scores from Eitzmann and Brayden Perez to pull within 38-35. They two teams traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter with Armstrong scoring for Frankfort and Eitzmann for the Blujays to make the score 46-43. Less than a minute later Frankfort had scored on a 55-yard touchdown pass from Cornelison to Caden Dalinghaus for the 54-43 lead. Cornelison passed for 151 yards and two scores and added 132 rushing yards and two more scores. Armstrong added 83 rushing yards for Frankfort. Perez rushed for 133 yards and a score for St. John’s-Tipton with Blake Perez adding 112 yards and a score. Eitzmann added 73 yards and three scores.
8M-II WEST
Victoria 50, Sylvan-Lucas Unified 0 – No. 3 Victoria improved to 10-0 and beat Sylvan-Lucas for the second time this fall. The Knights had 26 first-quarter points in a game that ended at halftime. The Knights outgained the Mustangs, 249-72. In the first quarter, Grant Schoenrock had a 36-yard touchdown run. Jayvon Pruitt had a two-yard TD run, and Schoenrock threw a 13-yard TD pass to Pruitt. Then, Schoenrock returned a fumble 40 yards for a touchdown. In the second quarter, Pruitt had TD runs of 21 and 65 yards. Schoenrock sandwiched in a one-yard TD run.
Wheatland-Grinnell 36, South Central 26 – Wheatland-Grinnell improved to 8-2 for the second straight year. However, a win Friday gave the Thunderhawks its best playoff advancement in school history after a Round of 16 loss in ’19. South
Caldwell 36, Central Plains 34 – In a wild back-and-forth game, Caldwell led 22-14 after the first quarter. Dawson Bristor returned a pair of kickoffs 69 yards for touchdowns. Central Plains built a 34-22 lead before Caldwell tallied a touchdown with 9:10 left. Then, Caldwell scored again with 1:27 left for the game-winning points. Jude Stow, who had missed several games this season, picked off a pass in the final seconds to seal the win. Central Plains had advanced to the Caldwell 20-yard line.
