The East blew open a game that was close at the half in the 8-Man Division II game to open the day and the West closed the double header of all-star games with a dominant win in the afternoon match-up featuring players from 8-Man's Division I, at the 28th Annual Kansas 8-Man All-Star games last Saturday in Beloit.

Thanks in large part to 100 yards rushing from the East's Kyle Hammond of Colony-Crest, last year's 8-Man Division II coverboy for Kansas Pregame, the DII East all-stars rolled to a 40-14 win in the morning contest in a game they led only 20-14 at half.

Hammond added 67 yards through the air completing 8 of 9 passing attempts and adding a touchdown to go with his two rushing scores.

Five different receivers caught passes for the East with Cody Nieman and Mark Zarybnicky of Hanover each catching three passes and scoring a touchdown.

For the West, Thunder Ridge's Trevor Lowe led the way with 76 yards rushing and one touchdown on 20 carries, while Otis-Bison's Dylan Wissman added 46 yards on 17 carries.

Sharon Springs' Gavin Mote led the West with 93 yards passing, but the West passing attack couldn't find the end zone as they were shutout in the second half.

The DI game started with a bang as Lincoln's Dayton Walter completed a 52 yard touchdown pass to Solomon's Josh Burdine on the first play of the game and the West controlled the game the rest of the way allowing only a 54 yard touchdown scamper by Central-Burden's Kasey Biddle en route to a 54-8 win.

Walter passed for 174 yards and two touchdowns while Burdine caught five passes for 141 yards and two scores. Minneola's Matt McClaren completed his three pass attempts for 53 yards and a score and Ness City's Garret Flax led the West ground game with 78 yards rushing and three touchdowns on just nine carries.

Rock Hills' Clay Cosand led the East with 60 yards rushing on 14 carries while Biddle added 53 yards and the East squad's only score on 13 rushing attempts.

The West was balanced tallying 439 yards of total offense with 227 coming through the air and 212 yards on the ground. The East could muster only 164 yards as the game ended with a running clock as the West went up by 46 points with 6:38 left in the fourth quarter.

Central Plains' Bryce Steiner was chosen the week's most inspirational player. Steiner is a cancer survivor who has been undergoing treatments since being diagnosed shortly after football season and plans to play baseball at Ottawa University next year.
