Kpreps comment: A Kpreps 4A All-State selection on the offensive line, Payne helped the Cardinals to a 5-4 overall record but a 4-2 mark in the Central Plains League. Cheney was slotted in one of the toughest 4A districts in the state with highly-ranked Andale and eventual state champion Buhler. Payne is a unique combination of size and speed and plays angry as a linebacker.
