In our 2023 Picks to Click feature, we selected several players or units from across the state each week that we felt would have breakout performances. We assembled a team of media members to select one player (or unit) each week and tracked the cumulative statistics of our selections throughout the season similar to fantasy scoring. 

The final standings for the season are as follows:

Top ten weekly performances for Picks to Click this season:

  1. Tanner Heckel, QB, Lyndon – 86 points in Week 4 (Gilmore)

    Heckel had an outstanding night in leading the Tigers to a 58-30 win over Cair Paravel. The senior quarterback passed for 49 yards and a touchdown, but rushed 29 times for 349 yards and seven touchdowns. He also caught a 3-yard pass.
  1. Owen Reece, QB, Hodgeman County – 79 points in Week 5 (Maycock)

    Reece continued to rack up video game stats in Hodgeman County's 40-38 shootout win over Bucklin last week. Reece completed 23 of 33 passes for 331 yards and 4 touchdowns and also ran for 101 yards and 2 scores.
  1. Aiden Hurst, QB, Peabody-Burns – 75 points in Week 8 (Maycock)

Hurst passed for 260 yards and six touchdowns, added 54 yards rushing and a score, and had a 20-yard catch in the Warriors’48-40 win over Centre-Lost Springs. 

  1. Logan McCarty, QB, Cheylin – 73 points in Week 3 (Nicholl)

McCarty passed for 322 yards and five touchdowns and added 56 yards and another score on the ground as Cheylin upset No. 1 Ashland, 62-32.  

  1. Duncan Bell, QB, Hoxie – 66 points in Week 7 (Nicholl)

Bell passed for 209 yards and three touchdowns and added 101 yards on the ground and three more scores as Hoxie blasted Quinter, 52-6.

  1. Dylan Dunn, QB, Blue Valley Southwest – 64 points in Week 5 (Kuplen)

Dunn blitzed Blue Valley North in passing for 327 yards and six touchdowns in a 55-21 win. He also added 28 yards on the ground.
 

  1. Mason Baker, QB, Thunder Ridge – 62 points in Week 6 (Nicholl)

Baker completed all 12 of his passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 109 yards and three more scores in Thunder Ridge’s 52-6 win over Wheatland-Grinnell.
 

  1. Ian Kresin, RB, Lakeside-Downs – 58 points in Week 2 (Maycock)
     

Kresin is well on his way to a monster season in leading Lakeside to a 2-0 start. After rushing for 210 yards and 6 TDs in the Knights' opener, Kresin followed it up with 221 yards and 5 rushing TDs in last week's 56-52 win over Reno County Homeschool. Kresin also caught a TD pass and ran in a pair of two-point conversions and this season has 13 total TDs on offense and 472 total yards. 

 

  1. Jace Wunderlich, QB, Central Burden – 55 points in Week 1 (Gilmore)
     

Wunderlich had an incredible stat line in Central Burden’s 62-16 win over Sedan. The senior quarterback passed for 201 yards and two touchdowns, added 59 yards rushing with three scores, had two interceptions on defense, and added two punt return touchdowns.

 

  1. Braden Young, LB, Northeast-Arma – 54 points in Week 4 (Kuplen)
     

Young registered 25 tackles, including four for loss and recovered a fumble in Northeast’s 56-22 loss to Erie. On offense, Young also added 108 yards on the ground and had 37 receiving yards.

Colton Brusven, RB, Tonganoxie – Brusven rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown in Tonganoxie’s 40-10 win at Ottawa back in Week 8. (Clisso – 12 pts)

William Dorsey, QB, Wellsville – Dorsey passed for 194 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-0 win over Baldwin back in Week 8. (Gilmore – 43 pts)

Aiden Hurst, QB, Peabody-Burns – Hurst passed for 260 yards and six touchdowns, added 54 yards rushing and a score, and had a 20-yard catch in the Warriors’48-40 win over Centre-Lost Springs. (Maycock – 75 pts)

Brayden Kunz, RB, Conway Springs – Kunz rushed for 274 yards and four touchdowns in the Cardinals 41-6 win over Hutchinson Trinity. (Kuplen – 51 pts)

Caleb Noble, WR, Ellis – Noble did not play in Ellis’ Week 8 win over Syracuse. (Boston – 0 pts)

Ryan Sramek, RB, Atwood-Rawlins Co. – Sramek rushed 35 times for 147 yards and a touchdown and passed for 32 yards and a touchdown in Rawlins County’s 32-26 loss to Hoxie back in Week 8. (Nicholl – 29 pts)


2023 Picks to Click Rules

- The objective will be to have the most cumulative points over the course of the season.

- Participants may select a quarterback, running back, WR/TE, offensive line or a defensive player each week.

- Everyone must pick a WR/TE, offensive line and defensive player at least once.

- Points will be rewarded only for the player's offensive or defensive stats, depending on how you designate the player that week. For instance, if you pick a running back then you will not receive any of his points for defense.

Scoring system

QBs/RBs/WRs/TEs

- 1 point for every 10 yards passing, rushing or receiving from a quarterback, running back or wide receiver

- 6 points for every passing, rushing or receiving touchdown

Offensive line

- 1 point for every 50 yards gained as an offense

- 3 points for every offensive touchdown

Defensive player

- 2 points for every tackle

- 4 points for every INT, sack or fumble recovery
