HUTCHINSON - Andale cemented its fourth straight football championship by doing what it has done well through their entire 51 game winning streak…run the ball, stingy defense, and solid special teams as it defeated a tough Holton Squad 28-0 at Gowans Stadium in Hutchinson.

Andale built a 22-0 lead heading into the locker room and rode its defense in the second half. Time of possession was in favor of Andale 34 minutes to 14 minutes, and the play advantage was 68 to 38.

Andale opened the scoring with a 4th-and-goal touchdown pass from Wyatt Spexarth to Riley Marx of 16 yards on the game’s opening drive.

Holton went three-&-out, but after the punt Andale fumbled on the first play from scrimmage and gave the Wildcats great field position. Holton would march down to the red zone but a fourth down running play came up short.

Andale went on a 13-play 88-yard drive, highlighted by a 40-yard pass from Spexarth to Cody Parthemer, and capped off by a 1-yard Spexarth sneak to lead 15-0.

After another Holton three-and-out, the Andale offense went to work. The Indians grinded out an 11-play, 65-yard drive, all on the ground and capped by a short scoring run by Parthemer go into the locker room up 22-0.

Holton’s offense would put their best drive of the game out of the locker room, as quarterback Matthew Lierz ran the option well and took advantage of Andale’s pursuit of Holton’s leading rusher Garyson Booth. The Wildcats marched down the field until a fourth-down pass was intercepted by Indian’s safety Shay White to end the threat.

While Andale’s lone third quarter offensive series did not yield any points, it would chew up nine minutes off the clock and flip the field position. Holton’s next two drives ended in fumbles, and Andale got a nine-yard touchdown run by Owen Eck with under a minute left in the game to complete the scoring.

The Wildcats season comes to an end with an 11-2 record, their only losses being to the state champions in Class 3A (Andale) and in Class 2A, Nemaha Central. Lierz was the Wildcats leading rusher with 59 yards, and lead the team in tackles with 15.

Andale was led by Owen Eck with 70 yards on the ground, followed closely by Gage Prosser with 64 and Riley Marx with 63. Cody Parthemer had 100 all-purpose yards running and receiving. Spexarth was 7 of 12 throwing the ball for 142 yards. Kelby Eck lead the Indians eiht 8 tackles.
